LAST CALL: Transmission is spoken for. If anyone is interested in anything else, speak up quickly because I need the space in my garage for my FJ40 AND my wife and I are tired of the smell (gear oil STINKS) so anything not bought by Monday will be hauled to the scrap metal by the pounds place to be crushed and/or melted. I'm not a hoarder, and it WILL go if none of you want it. I was told it was a 1971 drivetrain, but expert eyes here in the forums have said they think it is a 1972 or 1973, so look closely at the pics. Crankshaft and pistons are not there. If interested in anything, make a reasonable offer. Thanks.

Good morning, I'm looking for a good clutch fork and throw out bearing hub. The retaining ears on my fork are broken and my hub is pretty worn where the fork rides. Thanks

OK. I learned to drive on a stick shift, but I never pulled one out and have only pulled and installed Chevy automatic transmissions. So you may have ot guide me alone a little bit. I definitely have the clutch fork. I "think" the clutch and throw out bearing hub are in the picture between the valve cover / rocker arm assembly and the radiator, with the clutch above and the throw out bearing being pictured below the clutch. Am I correct? Send me a PM with a reasonable offer.

Thanks

Correct, the throw out bearing hub is right next to the air cleaner (almost under it). There are a couple of spring clips that hold it to the fork, if they are shiny but not real worn it is good. The fork should have a retaining clip on the back that looks like a two pronged fork. I see you also have a what looks like an early carb too. Can't hurt to have a spare one of those. Those 3 items would be most helpful, thanks!

I should have said, if the surface under those spring clips, where the fork rides is shiny but not worn to the point of dishing. Sorry.

See you have a driveshaft there…looking for front but rear would work in a pinch! Send me a price. Thx!

I sure do. You could have the front drive shaft, or the rear drive shaft, or you could have both. I just did a quick Google search for "FJ40 Drive Shaft". WOW.

How about this... You do a quick search, look at what they are selling for, and send me a private message and make me an offer. And let me know if you prefer the front, the rear, or both.

Thanks!

Drive Shafts? Is that a complete front and broken off rear? $$$

You are going to think I'm insane, but I kept a few things as spares and had everything else hauled off for free by a scrap dealer. I needed the room and had to get it out of the way.

Nah. I just did the samething to an FJ55. I took it to a salvage yard and pulled the axles and left the rest for scrap.

Did you happen to keep the air cleaner assembly?

Did you happen to keep the air cleaner assembly?

I did. I took it and had it powder coated and I'm going to use that air cleaner on my 2F. I also kept the starter, alternator, carb, thermostat housing, and head assembly for spares. Some of the guys on here said if I bolt that head on my 2F I will gain about 2 on my compression, so I figured that was worth keeping. My 2F has a Weber carb in it, so I'm planning on rebuilding the OEM carb and putting it on the 2F. That's all "IF" the paint & body shop will get on the ball and get it done. I went over and chewed them out, so they are back to working on it. I was hoping it would be done by Christmas but that isn't happening.

@FloridaLife so have you gotten back to your FJ40 project…heck, Christmas was almost 2 months ago and I haven’t read anything…always interested

It is STILL at the paint & body shop. They kept jumping quick collision jobs in front of it and I finally went over there recently and 'became VERY persuasive' that they had better not jump anything else in front of mine. The guys that are doing can only work on it on the weekends because during the week they work for a big expensive collision center and they do jobs on the side on weekends. So it's been slow, but way cheaper. I can't afford the big shops. These are also the same guys that did my motorcycle, and it looked great. Last Saturday they were taking everything off and putting plastic sheeting over some things so I think it is finally going to get painted.

Oh, that’s good then. I had a friend who did exactly that when I first started restoring some vintage bikes. He was reasonable though. Two weeks usually but things happen under those terms. Looking forward to reading up on your project again

I did go over there with some of my tools and converted it to electric power steering.
