Sears has a sale on their Craftsman 3-ton floor jack for $60. Will that work or do I need the 4-ton, which is $130?

As an aside, does anyone know how to search for phrases. I tried "floor jack" in the advanced search window and I get all threads that have floor and jack somewhere in the thread. I've also asked the same question in the Help Section.

Ive got the 3 ton and it is more than adequate for a vehicle like a 60. Remember youre not lifting the whole weight of the truck when you jack it up, and 3 tons is a lot of weight.

They only get weaker. I have the 3-Ton aluminum racing series jack. It's a low profile so I can get it under the wifes Avalon. I have to really crank on it to get the front of my 40 off the ground. The 60 is not near as bad.

Don't forget to buy Jack stands.

Sam's is selling a 7000 lb high lift jack. I have this and can jack the frame up enough to get the tires off the ground and without compressing the suspension! Its only like $60. I am real happy with it. It has a long handel and a low profile for my wifes buick.

x2 by some large jack stands they make working on the rig alot more comfortable and safe!

The ton rating isn't nearly as big a deal as how high it can lift a vehicle. Once you start getting a little flex in you suspension and some larger tires, some jacks run out of travel before the rig is high enough to get jack stands under it.

What jack do you use?

I bought a 2 1/2 CREW-LINE aluminum floor jack from Sams and it worked goood for about 6 months. Then it would leak down pretty fast. Have to stick a jack stand under real fast. Now a caster broke and the number I called was Altrade. new castor costs $6.45 so now you know that will be pos. If you use a floor jack a lot spend extra and get a name. Lincoln bought out the old Walker Co. I will be giving them a shot.

I bought a Harbor Freight floor jack a few years back and it has been one of the only only things I would recommend to people I like. It's a 2-1/2 ton (no problems with the front end of my Chevy 3/4T 4x4), and more importantly the saddle lifts up to 21" I think. Most floor jacks top out at like 15 or 16 inches which isn't enough to get most of our tires off the floor. I got mine when it was on sale for like $40.
