Thanks to mission creep, my AC system replacement expanded to new radiator. Radiator is for a manual (this is auto), so I bought flat (not canister) tranny cooler. I figure I can mount it between the radiator and the condenser. Any thoughts on whether that will restrict air flow and cause heating issues?

The correct radiator for the 62 has a -heat exchanger- built into the bottom of it for the transmission. It's purpose isn't just to cool the fluid but to warm it up too in cold weather. Cold ATF running through the transmission isn't good for it either.

Get the right radiator. The csf unit is an all metal unit that is a direct fit and pretty much identical to oem. Transmissions don’t last long with hot temps. So while warming it up isn’t a concern for you, getting too hot should be more of a concern especially in hot Texas. Many 62 owners run the the cooler in the rad and an additional aftermarket cooler out in front of the ac condenser with good results. I haven’t noticed a drop in air flow or a rise in engine temps.
