I know it is nothing new or earth shattering but per Tare's request some pics of the flare less Cruiser. I absolutely love it.I am not a big fan of fender flares plus this way I don't have to worry about damage multiplication when wheeling.

While I was at it I took of the roof rack and will line the top with Durabak as well in strips ala TAYLOR. I will be doing a Durabak treatment where the flares were pretty soon. In the mean time I used white electrical tape and cut out circles with the assistance of a large washer and covered all of the holes. This serves two purposes, keep out water in the meantime and not look too bad until the Durabak makes it on. I am waiting on Brentbba to do his and taking my time researching to be sure it is perfect and how I want it. I am quite picky when it comes to my Cruiser. I am very thankfull to be able to reference all of the othere Mudders who have done this mod already.

It looks so good I wish I could afford the body work to make it look like this permanently.

You got that cleaned up quickly Mo!

Oh yes when I want to do something bad I make time for it. One glance next to yours and I was disgusted, they had to go. By the way were did you order your Durabak from?

Excellent, thank you.

Tell Jake @ Durabak that Tare says hello. He will be the one answering your call.

Tare

Will do Tare. I have been trying to decide which color to do. If it were a 450 I could do pink :flipoff2: , but I am thinking black or Dark Grey. I originally only planned on black but I might want to be different. Decisions, descisions. Anyone have any opinions or have seen dark grey used?

Mine showed up yesterday. Wish I had time to do it this weekend, but headed to Kernville to do some rafting with the scouts!

Have fun rafting Brent. I am going to try and get all the supplys on hand so I can dive into it when I get back on my fee. I have searched alot of threads on applying the Durabak and it seems to me that the wire edged tape is not cruicial to getting a nice edge. Using electrical tape and a couple layers of masking tape yeilds a nice clean edge. Have you found anything that indicates wire tape is worth the $30 a roll you had to pay? How do you think dark grey would look? I noticed Ammo's ARB is grey and it looks pretty good on a white 80.

Never went back when they called. Found some online for $17 and bought that! Fricken highway robbery at $31.

It's a 100ft roll, so if you've got any patience there should be enough for both roofs, or we could have another party and do both roofs at the same time. I've got a gallon of xylene for the final prep cleaning and enough sandpaper (had plenty left over from my deck project) for the entire truck. Used 60 grit on the flares and they are ready to go. Will double check the prep instructions that came with the Durabak before I apply anything tho.

I also have a trace outline from clarkrw3 for the rack feet portions. An artist I'm not and he graciously did a trace rubbing of the portion of the linx that went over the feet on his truck. His was professionally done like Tyler's. Figure I can use that and lay down the tape from there.

I did send a PM to Troutrunner asking more specifically how the nutsert removal went. I'll let you know what he says if I get a response. I would probably use aluminum tape instead of duct tape if I take mine out. Not to worried about the rust given where we live. Dremel and a wire brush attachment is about all I plan on doing around the nutserts to clean up what rust is there.

I don't have a choice but to be patient as I can't get it done before I am off my feet for awhile. I appreciate the offer and would like to take you up on it. I will be doing the flare areas as well and it might be a bit much to try and do bot rigs as the drying time between coats can add up real fast. Maybe one at a time.

Do you think the wire tape will make the tight turns for the roof rack foot prints? Do you plan on doing the runners down the middle?

From the research I did on the wire tape, it's supposed to be able to do tight turns. I know wire tape was used on Tyler and Clark's projects by the pro's. I'll let you know for sure how it works out. I am doing the runners down the middle as well. I plan on doing exactly what Tyler and Clark had done.

I think the big PITA is going to be masking off the little edge of the flares that the flare gasket sticks to. I've got some of the green automotive masking tape for that.

That will be a pain for sure. I am wondering how the thickness of the Durabak will affect the final position of the flare trim pieces. As I understand it two coats comes out to about 1/8" which could make it even harder to position right. The edge you have to adhere to is not that thick. I guess if you take your time it should work out fine.
