Cool pics Steve, but come on, the Fjcruiser looks out of place:) Now put a brand new short wheel base fzj70 and you'll really see the resemblance I like the Fjcruiser and have seen it wheel on several occasions, very capable vehicle but it’s not a "Land Cruiser".

Nope, technically the FJ Cruiser is not a Land Cruiser.

But ironically, technically this one is . . . .

I see absolutely NO RESEMBLENCE to a FJ40 Land Cruiser there. Yet THAT is supposed to be a Land Cruiser. You guys keep bringing up that the FJ shares a couple of items with the 4 Runner. Big deal, the new 200 series shares TUNDRA parts. It's part of the "We already have something that works, let's use it for this model too" mentality.

Let's just leave this dumb argument alone. No, I wouldn't trade my new FJ for a 70 series. I like my new FJ, and to ME it is a Land Cruiser as much as my old 40 is in the back yard in mid restoration. As far as the new 200 series goes, it's a Range Rover wanna be with that quick up and down shifter and all those Range Rover applications Toyota ripped off from Rover. That's another story however.

Yeh, I'm sorry, but the above photo explains everything. Just because you produce a vehicle and slap the Land Cruiser name on it, doesn't make it a Land Cruiser. However, you produce a vehicle that not only resembles the original in many ways, but is also (and more importantly) able to FUNCTION the same in many ways and even better in other ways, then I'd say you have a sibling. IMO, the FJ Cruiser is more of a true Land Cruiser than the current line of Land Cruiser.

What is a "true" Land Cruiser?

One simplified definition is: a tough, reliable, and capable Four Wheel Drive.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe Toyota has ever offered a Land Cruiser with an option for 2wd.

So what, we're gonna split hairs here and say only the 4WD FJC is a Land Cruiser? I'm not really sure why Toyota even bothered with the 2WD version. But they did. That doesn't make the 4WD models any less of a Land Cruiser. But the fact that the Land Cruiser has become a $50,000 and up luxury beast of an SUV more suitable for cruising mall and soccer field parking lots DOES make it less of a Land Cruiser IMO.
