what resemblance am i looking for:confused:

The words "Toyota" and "Cruiser" written somewhere on the truck and the silver outside rear-view mirror. :D

(Okay, so I'm really stretching it a bit . . . . I just wanted a lame excuse to post up these "family photos." :) )

That 25 is awesome!

I see the resemblance. I also noticed that the older one and the new one seem to have the same 'stance' about them.

Forget what the detractors say, the new FJ is every bit of a Land Cruiser as the 25 sitting there. They are just jealous because they probably drive garbage.

One thing I am sick and tired of, is people who are constantly saying the new FJ is not a Land Cruiser. I have been a Cruiserhead for YEARS, and have followed this vehicle from conception into reality, and it is the modern offspring of the 40 series. Everything points to it, not only in style, but in Toyotas own written material. I am SICK and tired of people constantly bringing this crap up, and I really don't want to hear it any longer. If YOU DO NOT LIKE THE NEW FJ, DO NOT COME TO THE FJ FORUM and bash it!

That's YOUR opinion.
Well, no. There is only one Land Cruiser (and only one FJ Cruiser) in those pictures.

But there is most definitely two Cruisers, and both of them ROCK!

Well, it really isn't man, I don't understand why some people get so worked up about it. It's a nice 4x4, but it isn't a LC.

And the true offspring of the 40 series is the 70 series (still in production).

Steve: awesome pics, the bumpers on the FJC look tight and the 25....wow, just wow, I love it when classic vehicles are restored to their original form, it's like taking a glimpse into the past.

Wow! Would I love to wake up and find that in the garage. I could live with purple. Honestly, your resto is very clean and tidy, great work...;)

Like I said, some of you have your own OPINION. The fact is that the FJC is the direct decendent of the 40. It's a 'retro' FJ Land Cruiser. Just like Dodge brought back the Dodge Charger, and Ford brought back the Mustang.

Some of us get worked up about it because we are tired of people who can't add 2+2 to get 4.

I didn't know the 70 was ever produced for the US Market.

C'mon guys! Lineage means NOTHING anymore in todays automotive world! The Japanese steal from the Germans and vice versa, the Italian's best technology gets refined by the Germans & Japanese...Korea steals EVERYTHIG as do the Russians!

Toyota would have named the FJ a Land Cruiser if they hadn't continued the brand as it turned into a "luxury" 4x4 in the states. The Prado in Aussie land is called a Landcruser. It's the same Hi-lux platform as the FJ.

Bottom line is those are two cool 4x4's!

LAND CRUISER TIMELINE
PRADO TIMELINE = 40--->70=split(concurrent production)=>90--->120
LC TIMELINE = 40-->50--->60-->80-->100-->200

40 SERIESThe 40-series went on to enjoy a successful 24-year run before being replaced in 1984 with the 70-series.
70 SERIES the Prado embarked on a new and independent path. This 2nd generation design was aimed at creating a car that retained its 4WD character while looking at home on city streets. It reflected Mr. Yoshii's experience while doing development work on another Toyota vehicle, the Carib. Then a Land Cruiser was used as a support car during snow testing. The heavy Land Cruiser often got stuck, while the Carib was "light enough to run circles around it," as Mr. Yohii puts it.
90 SERIESAiming for supremacy in all classes, Toyota developed the 90-series Prado as its final weapon against its main competitor, the Mitsubishi Pajero. one other feature helped push it to market success - independent front suspension.
120 SERIESToyota's new Land Cruiser is aimed at the core of the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) market and replaces the current Land Cruiser 90 in Toyota’s comprehensive SUV range. Like all previous Land Cruiser models, the new Toyota Land Cruiser offers full off-road capability - but, in response to the growing leisure market, the latest model adds superb on-road driving pleasure with new standards of premium car quality and comfort. The new Toyota Land Cruiser is at the heart of the SUV market while the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 - itself revised for the Paris Mondial de l’Automobile - targets the luxury market for those seeking the ultimate in off-road performance.
