Prairey City doesnt count either guys! I am looking for some suggestions for some trails I can explore with my '80. Its stock height, with 32.8" BFG mud terrains, no lockers.

I know of a few forest service roads outside of tahoe, but none of them are really all that great. Im kind of looking for a place I can setup camp, then take the family out for a day trip and return to camp by supper.

Anybody have any good suggestions?? Thanks.

my favorite area is kyburz up 50. its about an hour and 15 or so from our neck of the woods. its off of silverfork road. tons of dirt roads, some may have some brush overgrown so beware of scratches. rattlesnake bar at folsom lake is pretty cool, but the water is too high to have fun this year. you can also go toward sly park, get on mormon immigrant trail and find a dirt road to go off on. pm me so i can get some info from ya. well have to get a caravan going one weekend.

I have a 60, but would love to get in on some of this...

Yes Kyburz is the place I know, also Strawberry, where there is a service road that travels from hwy50 to 88. Last time I was in Kyburz tho, it looked like alot of the old trails I used to go on (back in my Subaru days) are overgrown or have signs/boulders keeping people out.

One place I have read up on, that I am very interested in checking out, is a place called Deer Valley farther up hwy 88 I believe. Has anyone been through there?

deer valley was my next suggestion. i have heard ( but am not certain) that lockers and sliders are reccomended du to the rocks and obstacles. i plan on hitting that trail soon hopefully.

Deer Valley is a great choice, but run it soon before the snow flies. Easiest to run in from the 88 side, a bit more challenging from the highway 4 side.

The Slickrock trail is also nice starting at Utica is nice but you'll want a spotter coming down the first obstacle with a stock truck.

How far do you want to drive? there is great stuff north of Tahoe, and even better and more remote trails out in Nevada.

Since it's almost time for snow, the 4wheeling in the Sierras will mostly shut down. Driving a bit more distance gets you to Death Valley which is a perfect spot to explore in a basically stock 80. It remains drivable though most of the winter, but the really high country will be closed off by snow.

The real beauty of an 80 is the ability to drive a long distance comfortably, and still have a truck capable of wheeling when you get there.

I ran Slickrock a few years ago in my '84 pickup, on 33's with open front & rear. I would love to do it again in the FJ80 but I wouldn't dare without sliders.

It sounds like alot of the same trails I have been looking at are the most popular. Distance isn't a huge issue anylonger since I have A/C, Cruise, and power everything. I wouldn't mind finding some spots in Nevada to check out. I have been to Moon Rocks and out exploring on some reservations past Pyramid Lake. I have a buddy who lives up there, and he does alot of hiking and knows of a few places.

I doubt I will be doing any wheeling until Memorial day next year... just trying to pre-plan some stuff. The plan is to end up with a tent-trailer of some kind to haul up, and setup a campsite where I can then take my family out exploring... then return to camp.

My wife & I just had a son 2 months ago, so we will have "modernize" our camping experience, and I will also have to tame my wheeling alittle until he is out of the carseat.

Slickrock will be fine. As stated you will need rocker protection in some areas if you are stock. I just went through in august and it was fun. A spotter is helpful on the trail in some areas. If you don't care about your junk.

I will be there next weekend with several other 80s and a heep. I will most likely not go all the way to Alpine this time. PM me if anyone wants to meet up.
