Fj62 tranny hi-pitch whine..

What exactly is happening when you hear this whine?

Are you sure it is the tranny and not the t-case? The only time I've ever got a whine, was my t-case fixing to fry due to a lack of gear oil.

Yes tranny...my t-case was full. I only heard the whine for about 20 seconds and it was gone.

According to Rodney, Cruiser transmission guru, the tranny oil pump being starved for fluid wll cause a high pitched whine like you are describing. Generally a sign of a clogged filter screen or low ATF level.

Well what was happening is that the o-ring between the tranny and t-case failed leaking t-case fluid into the tranny. I had to drive it the other day to church and i heard that whine but it didn't last long and i haven't driven the truck since. Its actually in the middle of a tear down of the t-case cause i am rebuilding. i just wanted to know if that was a bad sound or not.
