First one & now the other twin:
1988 Toyota FJ62 Land Cruiser -> Sold for Buy It Now = $2K
Auction opens 9 PM CDT Tuesday, 24 June.
eBay Motors: Toyota : Land Cruiser (item 330247160784 end time Jun-26-08 11:29:37 PDT)
MUD DEAL for Silver Star members ONLY (not mentioned on ebay) The Buy it Now price of $2K will include the Dog Hauler Pkg with the installed cargo tray, Milford Cargo Barrier & NIB from MAF Quality Steel frame mount receiver hitch. $625 (+ freight) value !*!*!
We have owned this FJ62 Land Cruiser Wagon since 1990. It was my wife's daily driver until Sept., 2005, when we won the “rust free” FJ62 I auctioned off on eBay 16 June. We recently purchased a 1997 Lexus LX450 (Toyota Land Cruiser), and in negotiations I agreed to part with both of our FJ62s. So our loss is your gain!
The power windows, locks, mirrors, front & rear wipers, and rear defroster all work. The master door/window switch was replaced with a used one from a grey interior FJ62. The power antenna mast does not retract fully. Some years ago, the lighting circuit was malfunctioning & our mechanic bypassed a circuit to restore function of the headlight switch & at the same time bypassed the Transfer Case switch's backlight. The switch operates & the 4WD light in the gauge cluster does light up.
The Sony CDX-710 CD head unit spins tunes through the 4 OEM speakers. The Sony CDX-T60 6-disc CD changer plays OK, but for some reason increases the volume level of the rear speakers & decreases the front speakers' output. Instructions for both units are in the console.
This Land Cruiser has never left us stranded in 172K miles (if you don't count human error of leaving the headlights on for hours & draining the battery). Repairs in the last 2 years/2K miles include: new water pump, thermostat, radiator hoses, rear heater hoses & clamps, radiator professionally cleaned & painted, throttle body cleaned, Nov/06; new brake pads, Jul/07 (rotors need to be replaced); and new transmission shifter bushing May/08. I have always used Toyota oil filters, and this Cruiser last got a new filter and 8 quarts of Castrol GTX 10W30 in May/08.
The tires are Pro Comp ATs, 30X950R15 on original rims. They have plenty of tread life remaining.
The Denso spark plugs have been in for a little over 9K miles. The Bosch distributor cap & rotor and NGK ignition wires were installed at that time.
I had a shop install polyurethane bushings, Terrain Tamer stock-length shackles & greaseable shackle pins. This really tightened up the suspension. The shocks & steering stabilizer are Old Man Emus.
I have used synthetic grease in the knuckles. The oil pan gasket is leaking. I have had the gasket replaced twice, in 1992 & again in 1999. It is a particular problem using synthetic oil, which I've been doing until the most recent oil change. The oil leaks down the pan & sprays back along the driveline. This problem is often misdiagnosed as the rear main seal by mechanics unfamiliar with this engine. The last time I had our mechanic replace the gasket, I was told the oil pan was bent enough that a new oil pan would be needed for the next gasket replacement. Included in this auction is a nearly new oil pan w/gasket I got on ebay several years ago.
As you can see from the pictures, there is rust in the rear quarter panels, lower portion of doors and rear frame C channels. Rust is also bubbling up in the paint along the lower left edge of the upper hatch's glass. Midwest FJ60s & 62s are very prone to rusting in these areas. The rust first appeared in the mid-1990s, and in 1997 we had a body shop repair the rust then evident & repaint the Land Cruiser in the original paint code, 153: Toyota warm gray metallic. There is some slight hail damage from years ago. I considered body work again in 2004, and found 4 solid doors (white in color) as replacements. Those doors are included in this auction.
I replaced the lift struts for the rear hatch in Dec/06.
The upholstery is in good condition; although the driver's seat vinyl is beginning to crack again after being replaced once. The cloth is pulling away at the seam just above that area.
The carpeting shows signs of wear; the carpet in the cargo area is from an FJ60 & is not an exact match to the FJ62's. The OEM front floor mats are worn. The back seat bottom folds forward, the headrests store on it; and the seat back folds flat to provide a level, 68 inch long cargo deck with four cargo hold down loops.
Three of the dash vents work correctly (I've epoxyed the 4th, but haven't yet reinstalled). The windows are tinted. The AC blows cold and is still R12. The rear heater is as toasty as the front.
A log of gas purchases and maintenance is provided.
The EPA's revised MPG figures for the 1988 Toyota FJ62 Land Cruiser Wagon are 11 City, 13 Highway. Those numbers are pretty accurate, although our records indicate as high a figure as 16.5 MPG fully loaded for a two week camping trip. Your mileage may vary. You will also leave with a full tank of gas!
You can drive this Land Cruiser anywhere AND back!
