Hi all,

I just drove the Land Cruiser home from Florida to Canada. It's a FJ62. The body is in really good shape. Around here I found a 1985 BJ60. The body is totally rotted away, but the engine and the running gear are great. It has the 5 speed gearbox. I'm thinking of converting the FJ62 over to the 3B diesel and the 5 speed gearbox.
Is there anybody on the list who has done this? How much money is involved? I have limited mechanical abilities, but I have a good friend who is a mechanic and I can use his shop and get free advice.

I know it would be a LOT of work, but since I have the matching gearbox and all the other hardware (like clutch parts, pedals etc) from the BJ60, I think I can keep the costs down.

What are the major problems I will run into? Like:
Engine and transmission mounts? Do I have to fabricate new ones on the FJ62's frame?
Driveshafts? Can I use the ones from the FJ62?

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Herbert

the cost should be very minimal. you could probably cut the mounts off of the BJ & weld them onto the FJ. providing all the mechanical parts on the BJ are in good condition you could probably get away with only spending a couple of hundred on miscelaneous hardware etc..

With both vehicles it should not be too difficult. You may want to either use larger tires or change out the diffs to the 3.70's in the BJ60 (the FJ62 has 4.11's if I remember right). Take the whole dash from the BJ60 and ALL the wiring in front of the front doors and use it. It'll make life MUCH simpler.
