Ok, these f'in things are holding up an aussie locker install. I have been using pb blaster(on screws and studs) and periodically hitting screws with brass drift. No luck. I went to Sears and got a ratcheting screw driver. When I load up on it, the poor ratchet feels as if it going to bend. Are these things reverse thread?

I assume you are talking about the one screw that holds the drum in place.
This one is not reverse threaded, but often freezes into place with rust. If you don't get it out you can drill it out in the worst case. It is not important to hold anything together, the drums will be held tight with the lug nuts.

Jan-78FJ40 - Thanks for the reply. I am back on track. Passenger side came off with ratchet, driver side had to be drilled and removed with a reverse thread do-ma-hickey. Axles are out and I am just waiting for baby to wake up(his bedroom is adjacent to garage) so I can get 3rd member out and onto workbench. Nothing like new home construction, I could hear a mouse fart in garage from the inside.

I know the locker can be installed with 3rd in the truck, but I am too old for that $hit.

Update - When I drained the rear diff there was metallic particles on plug, looked like a small ice cream cone. I used a magnetic wand to pull off crap. Did some IH8MUD searches, not good. The PO owner didn't know what maintenance means. The first mechanic I took it to said one diff was low and one was empty. Hum, which one was empty? I stuck magnetic wand into drivers side outer wheel bearing and got more crap. Any one with a good bearing puller in PHX area? The slide hamer route sounds nasty.

I ended up not replacing the rear bearings. Closer inspection once the seal was revealed the bearings were intacted. Metallic pieces? The spiders? Any way, the Aussie locker is in and ticks more than I thought it would or my d-locker in Bronco which has the periodic ka-blam going around corners.
