Hello, My name is Craig and I live in Lawrence KS. I just purchased my first Cruiser a few weeks ago. The rig is a 1984 FJ60, 205,000 miles, OME lift, Emissions removed, pretty straight with very litle rust. I will be adding 16" rims and 305 70 16 tires soon. I am also changing to 4.55 gears. The rig has a few "issues" that I would love some advice on... First, the 4spd is fairly noisy, unless you have the clutch engaged or are driving in 4th. I assume it is the input bearing??? 4th has some noise, but nothing like 1-3. Does anyone have a 5 speed? I would also like some FJ62 mirrors and lockers. Thanks Craig:

Welcome.

I would search on here for 16" rims. I know people on here are running 16". You can search just the 60/62 forum at top right. The 5 speeds are a hot item now so most people are not looking to get rid of used ones. You can buy a new one from Toyota or many other dealers. They go for around $1800. You can get a good used 4 speed since alot of people are changing them out.

Also if you have any pictures. Post them up. We always like to see pictures of new member's rides.

Use the search function liberally and you will find what you need. CruiserDan on here sells OEM parts and has good prices. Also you can use WANTED section on the forums and see if anyone has a good used set. Welcome:flipoff2:

Thanks...I have the rims (black steel), the tires are 305 70 16's. I liked the 285 75 16's a little better, but I can't beat the price on this good set. I will check for mirrors. I can't swing a new 5 speed now, so I will probably put a new input bearing and clutch kit in and hope that gets me by for now. If I find a used one, I might take a look. I will get some photos soon. She isn't too pretty, but lots of potential..kind of like my high school dates.

On the tranny noise...if it works OK, maybe just change the gear oil, and keep running it for awhile. My tranny has had some wierd noises for 40,000 miles....I don't want to "fix" it by putting in a used one, I'm waiting until either it fails completly, or I can actually afford the H55. Toyota stuff is tuff.

On the mirrors, I installed the non-electric fj62 mirrors. Got 'em from C-Dan. Huge improvement over the OEM fj60 mirrors. They bolt right on.

Thanks..I have had all fluids removed and flushed out diffs, t-case, trans and had new fluid in all parts. I will try to find those mirrors. Craig

Definitely CDan for parts. Sounds like you're off to a good start with your 60!
