Could I have them reinstall the old one and replace it myself? I can just go in from the access in the cargo area. Ya? I can get an OEM sending unit from city racer for $125

Also does anyone know if the pick up unit was covered of the recall because that part wasnt on the list of extras.

P. 5 of this thread. Check if any part numbers have been superseded or now discontinued from my post in 2022. You have to be knowledgeable and persistent.

As is typical for my local dealer, they are trying to charge as much as possible for everything.
$93 for hoses
$331 for the sending unit
$25 for a fuel filter
$17 for other hoses.
Not sure what to do except take it and figure I'm not going to get out of there nearly as unscathed as I'd hoped.

Why does the sending unit need to be replaced?

My fuel guage was reading half full all the time before taking it in for the tank replacement, so I don't know if they tested it and it failed or if its really rusty.

Ya. I asked them why the price is so much higher than MSRP. He said "Because we're a business and we have to keep the lights on." Im trying to decide if I should just have them clean it up, put it back in, and I'll replace it on my own. The Mechanic showed it to me. Its pretty rusty but with a little time, it would at least not be rusty.
The people that work there are pretty good, but I think the owner of the place is a crook.

did you walk to the parts dept and see how much it was if you bought it from them?
at this point I'd chalk it up as lesson learned and move on
did they ask you about replacing it or just did it on there own?

it was not covered but it you have seen the ones pulled out of these old trucks you would want to get it replaced. I dont remember how much I paid, but I do remember that I absolutely could have ordered if for cheaper. I was so stoked to get everything replaced that I just let them charge me dealer price....although I dont think they gigged me for over msrp. I think it would be worth looking up and asking them to charge you the current list price. You can get it from the link i dropped.

Update: I had them replace with new everything they said they needed. That had been my plan all along. I was just frustrated they wanted to charge so much over MSRP for everything that wasn't covered under the recall.
Anyway, here we are a few weeks later and now I've got some sort of a leak from the gas tank. I filled it for the 2nd time yesterday. Drove it about 16 miles then parked it in the garage for the night. I could smell fuel which was the case the first time I filled it but it wasn't this bad and it did go away a couple days after filling it. Last time I thought, well maybe I spilled a little gas or something, I'll worry about it if it happens again. It happened again and the smell is bad enough we could smell it in the house in the middle of the night. This morning I'm gonna call the dealership and see about getting it back in there. I'm hoping its just a loose hose clamp or something easy. If anyone has a good idea what it might be, let me know. I'd like to have some knowledge when I go in to the dealer so I can push back when they wanna charge me more. Which I'm almost certain they will.

Here's s picture from underneath. You can see drips of fuel hanging on the bottom of the frame and some fuel that has soaked along the tank.

Probably used the wrong size hose for the 14mm vent hose. Easy mistake to make.

Is this braided looking hose the vent hose? I haven't ever smelled fuel from inside the rig. There doesn't appear to be any signs of fuel leaking when looking in behind the cargo panel.

It would be the other side of that junction underneath the car. Originally a braided hose under the car as well.

Ok. Thanks Matt. I'll check that out and also let them know.

What would you charge me to send me the right hose. May be less hassle to deal with it that way.

Not sure, really, but there was no problem before the new tank. Any way to test it?

I took the cover off the hoses and things behind the fender.
