The 60 and 62 series are plagued with the issue of leaky gas caps. Toyota has discontinued this part and most of the used fill necks on the market are usually no better than the used one you are replacing. The issue with the design on these fill necks are the flimsy screw threads on the tank fill neck that weaken and deform over time.
The Fix: I offer the service of retrofitting your existing gas tank fill tube with a fitting and new gas cap. The threads on this new fitting are much more robust and seal very well. You will need to send me your existing gas tank fill tube. I will then retrofit it, pressure test it, repaint and send back to you. A vented gas cap comes with the retrofit.
Pricing is $160 paypal to 73guppie@gmail.com, This includes return shipping in CONUS. Please include your information with payment.
Removal of fuel tube: Removal is straight forward. Remove the two phillips head screws at the fill gap. You will need to remove the interior cargo panel. There you need to disconnect any accessory vent lines. Under the car you will need to remove one hose clamp connected to the main tube. The fill tube can then be removed from the interior cargo panel area. Ensure you do this in an open air area and it would be best to perform this while parked downhill and / or on a very low gas tank. If you would like to find a used fuel neck to send to me that is also an option.
Installation: a very small amount of metal needs to be removed from the existing hole in the body. This should be done with a curved metal file as shown in the picture. A few minutes with the file moving around the hole will remove enough material for the new retrofitted fill tube to fit.
*SMOG: I am not a smog technician or referee. I cannot guarantee that this will not cause you problems within your state smog laws. I do try to make the end result very clean and in my opinion it looks very stock thus hopefully not causing any issues with a smog inspector. I personally have not had any issues in the smog arena with this modification.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you! Noah
