Finally got the carb tightened down on the FJ60.

What a PITA.

I like the old 2F in my 40 so much better than the 60's bowl of spaghetti.
 
Also - I thought the 60 was also a 2F?

More emissions!

Im liking the simplicity of the 40 A LOT!
Everything that I did on the 62 was re engineering the wheel to do.
Granted, im re inventing the wheel with the 40 too, but its just different somehow!:D

Exactly, they took a nice simple engine and added 43.6 miles of vacuum tube plus assorted tubes, pipes and hoses. Most of which must be removed to access the carb.
 
Got it. I know the CA emissions are what ruined the valves on my 1F or 1.5F back in the 70s. I imagine they got less destructive and more complicated.
 
I thought vacuum leaks were part of the clean air requirements in the 70's and 80's.. I know they really help the mpg on the American cars that were jetted too fat for altitude..

Vacuum leaks suck.
 
The 3FE seemed WORSE with the emissions crap on there. I always had a higher idle on my 62...Nothing TOO BAD (700-750 RPM), but enough to know that there most likely was a leak SOMEWHERE.
Maybe THAT's why I got such poor mileage on that....:rolleyes:

I had a 1984 Honda Accord with a carb. Apparently they set some kind of record with that car. There was something like 75' of vacuum hoses routed in and around the engine bay of that car. I'm not kidding. If you ever get the chance to look under the hood of one, you have to just for the wow factor.

A buddy of mine had an Accord of that vintage. I would have guessed more than 75'. And some of it was already getting brittle in the late 80s. Yet I still see them on the road, so either owners have a lot of patience, or they run ok with a bunch of golf tees and clothespins.

I believe it, I was given the 75' number by a Honda repair shop. Mine ran great, but I thought some of those hoses had to be bad, I replaced a few of the easy ones and wisely left it the hell alone.

After looking at the vacuum line schematics I realize that most of it is actually vacuum controlled logic circuits. So even though newer cars don't have the miles of spaghetti tube the same systems are probably still there, just replaced with solid state electronics.


And I'm not sure that makes me feel any better. :lol:
