HI folks great forum for FJs new member here just bought 2 LCs both in need of work can't decide which one is worth renovating

At first glimpse most parts and panels look interchangeable just like the MK1,2,3 Hiluxs I'm used to

I'm in England so parts are sparse otherwise I'd have a go at doing both
Thanks

congrats on the FJs, you need to restore the troopy first, and get rid of some of that aluminum(fenders, windshield), but save the BJ42 for later

do the troopy first for sure!

troopy all the way...

Thanks for the replies I like the troopy more but then I look at the other one and I like that one, bit like women really.

The smaller one is a diesel although I'm sure the vin said FJ41 unless it's had an engine swap. Mind you I have made mistakes before

For practical reasons and also because the troopy engine is knackered I'd want to put the diesel engine in it.

Diesel - troopy combination for sure. Maybe even save the 41 top and put it on the troopy. Like a ridgeline/avalanche.

pull the diesel from the 42 and drop it into the troopy..... then restore the troopy and be very happy:grinpimp:

Hi Hiluxonian,

Based in the condition I would say the 45, most people in the US will say 45 based on rarity, here in the UK thats less of an issue, there are precious few of either so it's down to what suits you best :).

I am also UK based, in Stafford, Midlands so let me know if you run into problems, I might be able to help, likewise don't just dump the 2F from the troopie, I would probably pay more than scrap for carbs, manifolds etc.

If I were you I would do a quick check on the the ID plates, write down axle codes, VIN and model etc, I suppose you have V5's for both?

Good luck and hope to see you on the road sometime!

Malcolm

Hi mate a local ;) good to hear from you I won't dump the old lump don't worry.
I break hiluxs (on an amateur level- work as a landscaper) will gather up the bits when I'm ready and drop you a line
Cheers Darren

Interesting. Have another look and post up here, if indeed the plates say FJ41 then that would be damn cool. I thought only the BJ's and HJ's incremented the model numbers in later years. I did find some info on an FJ42 being a 2WD version of the 40-series, I think there was one on this forum at one time, but I couldn't find anything on an FJ41.

hi hiluxonian

where in england are you? i,m located in northampton and am restoring a bj40 at present. have done an fj45 in the past and have a few odds and sods.let me know if i can be any help.have just had a shipment from sor but in near future might be able to club together to save on freight? im answer to your question-head says swb-heart says troopie!

Exelecelt, when you sort a disk brake conversion with Hilux parts I will take one a kit. ;)

Of course the BJ might have disks already.....

Will do

x2 - I want a Troopy or LV sooo bad. Restore the Troopy and if the engine in the Troopy is toast drop in the diesel from the 41/42. Use the 41/42 for whatever other parts you need. If you don't have much left of the 41/42 when you are finished with the Troopy then sell or scrap the 41/42. If there is plenty left then you have another project!

No problem should get a chance to take pics/scribble numbers tomorrow
