I know its not an original fj45swb, but i could not bring myself to cut up such a rare vehicle to get what i wanted. So i made it out of my fj40. Sorry in advance to the purists, but i think it came out pretty good and i have plenty of room behind the seats.

I like it

No worries here - it's all good!!

I like what you done. It makes complete sense for guys over 6'. I have been thinking about doing something similar as I have two donor 40's kicking around. I might want to yap at you about the engineering behind your build.

I figure (hope) that I could avoid some of the 'issues' in such a build. Do you have some more pictures you can post? What mods did you do to the frame?

Questions! Questions!

I don't get some people...

Don't you know it's rude to just post a pic of cool rigs without any build up photo's/stories?

And I bet you thought I was going to flame you for cutting up a 40. Sweet rig, nice job.

thats a sweet rig, and as one of my chevy-loving friends said, im a brand-purist, so i don't mind it, does it have a yota engine?

Do you have or are you making a hard top for it?
id say it would look awesome.

btw, i third the motion on the build-up pics.

nice work!

I extended my 40 frame 32" @ the back. It is 4 linked with 1/4 elliptical springs so the frame extension is only holding up the bed, auxiliary gas tank, and bumper. It has the original 2f, 30 over, and TBI. Ended up 114" wb. The bed is from scratch using no cruiser parts, but trying to make sure it looks as close to an swb 45 as possible.
I, We are building another one with a hard top, 4" ome lift, 35's, crate 350 w/TBI, h55, Orion, etc...
My build is in the hardcore section under fj40 1/2 xtra cab build.

Thanks, Mike

Mike,

I've been watching your build in the hardcore section. I have to tell you, with all due appologies to the purists, that this is how Toyota SHOULD have built the FJ45. Absolutely beautiful.

I have an HJ47 pickup tub that I am planning to do this to, and your thread will be referred to a lot.

Cheers,

Josh

Mike.....Not bad for a carpenter :flipoff2:

How are the 75 spring 1/4 elip packs going? Did you get your bushings?

Josh,

Thats quite close to the FJ43 (shorter wheel base but close) so Toyota did sort of cover it, or SWB 45 pickup but I have never seen one of those in person.

I like the look of the cab and sort of agree the 45 cab could be bigger but having just chopped 14" off the overhang on an FJ45 the front now measures 9' while the back is 6', still 15'.

I can't believe no one hasn't posted the EZ link to the hardcore section. Now I got to get out of the comfort of the 45 corner & look for it. Hard to do when you have a bit of fuel  running through the veins at midnight.

I'm glad you used a 40 frame - I have two kicking around and maybe get motivated enough to . . . .

Malcolm,

I just meant the xtra cab pickup, not the wheelbase. I would love to have a 43/44/46 as well, but I really want a Cruiser pickup; a factory cab is out, however, as I am 6'6".

Cheers,

Josh

I would NOT cut up a perfectly good 45 frame. You know, The whole hens teeth thing. The next one will be stretched in the middle of the frame, this will move the wheel well part of the frame to where it should be. The 2nd one is always better than the prototype.

Have you thought about trying to fit one of the beds from 80's minis since they have the top indention w/ the side hooks? May look closer to stock but more plentiful in the yards??? Where are the suspension & frame lengthening pics? Teriffic job on the build

doubt it...they're rustbuckets.

Actually, This is made to like a SWB bed, but 8" shorter. The LWB beds have the indentation and side hooks, and the tailgate that says TOYOTA. I personally don't care for the look of the LWB bed, Its a matter of taste good or bad.
The build is in the hardcore section. Thanks for the replies.

Bump to the top for pics of an x-tra cab. Also click on our link at bottom, the x-cab shown being built as we speak.
