I have a 1966 FJ40 with stock manual steering, and well it's broken. the input shaft and the housing have both succumbed to time.

And for now I am just looking for a good used replacement steering gearbox/shaft assy.

One day I would like to upgrade to power steering but at this time that isn't happening. But I just need to get the cruiser running so I can use it when I get to building my shop.

Let me know what any of you may have and we'll go from there.

Thanks

I just pulled the manual box off my 77.....was working perfect, upgraded to power steering.

Urs if u want it....no idea of it will fit

Hi Brian! According to SOR, you're gonna need one that's '67 and earlier. You could probably adapt a later one, but if you're gonna do that, you could go with power.
Maybe post in the wanted parts section and see what you get.

got one in Bonham

Jason, thanks for the info.

Butch, I'll keep that in mind, I need to do a little research and decide what my options are.

Your options are, replace with correct year part. Replace with newer which requires column also, power steering conversion.......too many options too type here,
I have one or two of the correct year box.

Well I'm not against a newer conversion, because I have been toying around with installing a tilt column from a 67-72 chevy pickup/van into the cruiser. So do the newer gear boxes have a spline output or a D-shaft or some kind of rag joint? And will they attach to the stock frame mount with no problem?
