Does anyone know of any reliable mechanics in the Pleasanton, CA area. Anyone who has experience with cruisers would be great, but also someone who does good work on modified chevy 350 engines and can rebuild carbs.

Thanks a lot,

Christian

So you have a FJ40 with a chevy 350? I will ask around about good mechanics in the area. What work you need done exactly?

Thanks for the reply. I actually have a '70 FJ40 with a 383 stroker in it. I am in need of some carb work, possibly a rebuild or a replacement. It does not help that I can't figure out what carb is currently on the engine. I have to climb in there and try to figure it out. It is not a standard aftermarket one.

My problem was that she was hesitating on starting in first gear. The other day during WOT something happened, and now there is no problem with starting acceleration, but she idles at about 1200 rpm. I bought it from a guy who loved about 3000 feet elevation, so it might need to be adjusted for that as well.

Thanks for looking and let me know what you find.

One more thing:

I might have the 3 speed transfer case rebuilt as well. Normally I would do most of this myself, but with a new house and a brand new baby, I would rather spend my time with them or actually driving.

Thanks,

Christian

There are a few guys in the area who may be able to help you out. I have used Ace Tire and Auto Repair in San Ramon for tires, alignments, etc. (nothing mechanical) Good people, ask for Tom. I know they do general repair work, I just have never had a need to have them wrench on my stuff.

Also, in Castro Valley on Crow Canyon Rd., Hinkley Auto Tech, 510-881-1052. Kevin is the owner. Reputable place, always busy. Did some work on the wife's car. They do work on older stuff, but expect to pay $$.

I know a few people at Dublin Toyota that know Cruisers, but for your 350, it would probably not be very efficient.

Pete's Gear Shop in Hayward is good for manual tranny/x-fer work. Pete knows Cruisers too.

I'm in San Ramon too, so give me a shout if you need help.

For carb work I would go to Central Tune up in Walnut Creek. He specializes in CArbs and Electrical. He is not cheap but he is good.

Mudrak in Sonoma 707 996 5272 also Custom Cruisers Fj40 in Gilroy 408 842 3540 both are good with all your problems.

Thanks guys for all your help. Will custom cruisers be able to do the carb work as well, or just the transfer case?
