First time poster. I'm a new owner of 1970 FJ40 here on Cape Cod. The PO bought it from Cruiser Solutions in 2012. 1970 Land Cruiser FJ40 : Cruiser Solutions, custom cruisers, restorations, genuine Toyota parts, body tubs, used Land Cruisers for sale. We won't be off-roading with it but using it as a fun summer vehicle with perhaps a few trip to Sandy neck Beach.

It's outfitted with a 1975 2F with 4-speed. It is in amazingly rust free condition and pretty much original condition. I haven't turned wrenches in years but I'm back to grease under the fingernails. I can handle the basics but I'm looking for a shop that is familiar with FJ40's to perhaps take on some larger projects (power steering, disc brakes, etc).

I was going to take it Cruiser Solutions but have read some pretty bad reviews of them here. Any recommendations would be appreciated

Look up Denzil Desouza in Kingston

There is a guy in the Harwich industrial park that has a lot of experience with FJ40s. Every summer I go out there and see FJ40s and FJ60s in his shop. Im unsure on the name of the shop? Its off Rte 28.

Thanks for both the names! I'll give both of them a call. I'm enjoying turning my own wrenches again but definitely need help on the bigger projects.

@capecodguy - I Just purchased an FJ40 restored in Colombia. I’m looking for someone on Cape who can work on my FJ40. I’ve made an appointment with Cruisersolutions in NH for March but hoping there is someone closer. Have you tried Denzil in Kingston?

I have not done any calling around yet. I wanted to get a summer under my belt to put together a good list of work that I need to be done. Right now, I need new new seals for the front transfer case and the transmission. I have a really good local mechanic but am hesitant to have them dig into my FJ. I also need serious work on the carb. I was planning to call Matt's Auto Repair in Chatham based on the above recommendation. What type of work do you need on your FJ40?

My FJ40 was just restored in Colombia and shipped to US in June of this year. I just took delivery last week. I’m looking for an FJ40 specialist to go through it to verify work done and put together list of items that need addressing.

I would say call Matt in Chatham and schedule an appointment with him. He always has cruisers in his yard.
Good luck with the FJ40. Post up some pictures so we can get a better look.

Thanks. I’ll post some pics and will call Matt Chatham.

As I follow-up, I called Matt's Auto Repair in Chatham this winter. After leaving two messages and not getting a call back, I stopped in his shop. He wasn't there but I talked to his mechanic. When I asked if they did work on FJ's, he said he didn't know what I was talking about. The place seems like a pretty basic shop. I left another message on Matt's desk and still did not receive any call back. I'm crossing him off the list.

Thanks @capecodguy appreciate you following up. I think we’re on our own here. To me, having a specialist do our work is worth it in the long run. I’ve been doing all the work myself but have no back up plan when I get stuck (other than MUD). Here is work done on 76. Happy to help anyone with wiring.

I take it you didn't bring your rig up to Cruiser Solutions?

Not in mass, but if you’re heading up to New Hampshire, kina at north country land cruisers is always a good start. Also Wally at poor wallys land cruiser emporium in southern VT

Im sorry to hear Matt didn't get back to you. Seems like bad timing but you never know with all that is going on out there. I have seen at least three FJ40s over there and 3 or 4 Fj60 in his shop over the years. I know if Matt still runs the show that he can help. I do understand your frustration. Following up does get old quick especially when you need help. Both Kina and Wally are Land Cruiser specialists. Well worth looking into if you are up for the travel.

I have not brought it up to them until I’ve developed a baseline of what needs to be done/addressed. Most of the items I’m working on myself but do have a small leak at the idler gear assembly shaft on t-case. It’s the O ring and think any transmission shop can push shaft out without dropping thrust washers. However, there is still merIt to someone who has gone down this path before.

Moving to the Cape in September and bringing my FJ with me. I was reading this thread on mechanics that work on land cruisers around the Cape area. Anyone have any luck finding a good one?

Not yet. I'm following up with a local lead. Where are you moving to on the Cape?
