FJ40 broke my heart yesterday

You were thinking about just setting it your garage as an option anyway. You might as well work on it while it's sitting. I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home and not have to drive my 60 for awhile (it's my only ride) so I thought I'd dig in and fix the various exhaust leaks. A 10 hour job at the mechanic took me about 30 over the course of seven weeks. 90% of the work done was done between 8:30 pm and 11:00 pm with a couple of four hour shifts on a weekend.

I work about 45 hours a week, my wife works about 25 and we have a 5 and 7 year old that we all of a sudden had to home school. I'm not knocking it. Just sayin.'. and there are busier people out there that have it a lot tougher than me, but I'm busy. So it took forever, but I did it right. spent extra time where it was needed because it's a pride of ownership thing for me now and I didn't want to have to do it again.

I'm new to the 40 Forum, but I'm sure it's the same as in the 60 forum judging by the response. The support in the 60 forum is great and really provided good, solid advice, reassurance, options and guidance from a lot of different perspectives without judgement (for the most part :flipoff2: ) Two relatively big jobs for me that I did recently on my 60 were successful in no small part due to this forum.

It's too nice of a rig to give up now. It is not throwing good money after bad. (this is my mantra, by the way).

As another said earlier. Subscribed.

You will regret letting that go!!!

Hope to go aqua on my tube in the next year or so then paint it all shinny like that!

If my wife can drive a 40+ year old vehicle without power steering, so can yours.

Don't need an over head hoist. A regular engine hoist will work. I'd also get some locking hubs on that thing to cut down on birf wear.

Brave, driving your 40 should be easy compared to that flame thrower

I gots to get me one of those!!!! Great prescription for fire ants. I agree with @jmylie if she can handle a flamethrower in a dress the 40 is a piece of cake. :bounce:

@YOTA4X4,

Welcome !, nice rig, selling the 40 because of a s***ty economy will only make life double s***ty, fix it and keep enjoying it !

The fj40 can make your soul tired

the head gasket is simple to fix

but trust me I get it. I have a love and hate for these.

I buy one
Fix it up a bit Or f$;k it up More
Waste $$
Then sell it. Always at a loss
Glad it’s gone
Then I go get another one

But it keeps me busy and out of the house And I learn stuff

huge effin waste.
But sure fun

Another don’t sell it vote. Your cruiser is a keeper (as is your flame throwing wife!). If you have any inkling of keeping it, you will regret getting rid of it.

Well after a week or so of deliberation I’m going to begin to actively sell my FJ40. While it’s true I do love it, I think at this point in my life I’d be better served letting it go to someone else who has the time and means to continue to care for it as it should be. Any interest please shoot me a DM. I’ll look to gather some pictures and get it listed in the appropriate section as well. Thanks to all those who responded on here.

In the words of Kenny Rogers:
Know when to fold 'em

Best of luck with your sale.

I would keep it. I was going to sell mine a few months back when I started getting back into old corvettes. Glad I kept it— a perfect rig for Home Depot runs and it gets more reaction than an original 66’ 427 ex racer corvette. Keep it or you may regret it.
