I need front seats for my 1959 FJ25 and have the opportunity to buy a set from an early FJ40 (I think from a 1962). Does anybody know if they are the same? Will I be able to use them, are they identical or similiar, etc. Appreciate the help, thanks, Rick

I think the driver is the same between the 25 and '62 40...passenger 40 front legs are just a little different, I think the front left leg is a little short, easy to work around.

I found some '61 FJ40 front seats for a FJ25 and they were identical. I found them at Marv's and compared them to the seats in his 25. The only visible difference was the height of the cushion. The 40s were much thicker.

Gene, are you referring to the seats he thought he had when you saw him last week? If he has found them and/or if you already have those I won't buy this set. Please let me know.

Did you receive my check yet for the things you picked up for me? I thought it would have arrived there today. Thanks, Rick

No, these are seats I got for another 25 owner a few years back. I saw Marv today when I picked up your side mount tire carrier and he hadn't found the seats yet. I get a pick of the ones you're thinking of buying if you're able and post it to make sure it's the right one.

Like Phil says, the passenger seat is the same except for one of the leg supports at the transmission hump (look for the discussion on fuel tanks to see the difference). It is just a post on the FJ40, you will need to extend it and put a tab for a bolt like this:

Jim, you are definitely Dr. FJ25! The thing about my 1959 is that the guy left the tube frame in it, so I think I can do this without any problem. I am going to the farm Wednesday (where the car is) and will double check but I think the tube frame under the seat that straddles the gas tank and tool box was never removed, so I just need the seats and hardware to fasten them to the frames. This might be easier than I thought. Thanks, Rick

Mike, does that mean the 25 seat sits about an inch lower?

Here are two pictures of my existing seats, the original FJ25 frames are still in place, so I think that I only need the two seats and the hardware to fasten it to the existing frames. If I understand this correctly, I can use seats from an early FJ40, 61, 62 or 63. Any other input or opinions? Thanks, Rick

Now here is something a little interesting, in mid 1960 Toyota lowered the height of the tool box under the driver's seat. The seat itself remained same but did Toyota lower the passenger's seat height to match? I can check this in a couple of weeks but right now I'm not sure, anyone know?

John
