Does anyone know what the "FJ" stands for or maybe the history of or meaning for it? Thank you for any info.

:hhmm: It is a model designator. For example FJ40, FJ45, etc. The The "F" indicates the engine family: F,2F,3FE. The "J" means nothing that we know of
FJ

F stands for Gas, 6 cylinder F, 32F, 3F, 1FZ

B is a 4 cylinder Diesel series B, 2B, 3B

H series of motors are Diesel 6 cylinder H, 2H, 1HZ, 1HD-T etc.

P is 5 cylinder diesel as in PJ-74some say the j means made in japan but there is nothing to prove that

HOWEVER- the "FJ" in "FJ Cruiser" does not adhere to these rules, it is a model name only and does not designate the engine code as it did in older cruisers.

^^^ Don't be a hater, Doc. ;)

Love the avatar BTW.

Not being a hater- I would prefer to have the motor out of the FJ cruiser in my FZJ if I had a choice. I was just pointing out that the previous rules toyota went by do not apply in the naming of the FJ cruiser.
