fj locking hub conversion

There are a few issues with doing this (not to say it can't be done). One, the speed sensors are integrated into the wheel hub and bearing assembly and if you have an unlocked hub the front speed sensors will not be sending a signal the skid control ecu and your dash will light up like a christmas tree and your ABS, VSC and ATRAC functions will not work. Second, the front hubs are splined on both the MT and AT versions of the FJC. Even if you could machine down the splines and figure out how to get an older IFS hub on there and the axle shaft does not stick through the hub far enough to engage a locking hub gear. Forgoing the christmas tree lights on your dash you would have to look at getting the locking hub setup that was used on the earlier tacomas or 4runners. I haven't seen anyone do it yet, nor have I seen a kit.

how did you deal with this with your SAC

I unplugged the wheel speed sensors on all 4 wheels. Installed a speed sensor in my tcase. Pulled the speed signal wire out of the Skid Control ECU that feeds the speedometer and wired the speed sensor directly to it. I don't have ABS, ATRAC, TRAC or VSC working at this point, but my speedo reads correct (with a little help from a Dakota Digital box). I am tinkering with a few ideas on how to make the wheel speed sensors work again, but nothing definitive at this point.

why would you want to do this swap. have not herd of any one having issues with the auto hubs. they seem quit stout to me.

There aren't any issues with the existing hubs. It has more to do with wear and tear on the drive train parts, drag that effect gas mileage and the ability to unlock the front axle should you break an axle shaft.

Does the FJC actually have an auto hub?
I thought the FJC had drive flanges and spin the front axles all the time regardless of the t-case being in 2wd.

That is correct. the CV half shafts spin all the time. as do almost every vehicle manufactured. the last decade.
