I have been considering for quite some time on getting bumpers for my fjc. My biggest dilemma is price. Has anyone been to fab shop or offroad shop that might know how much it'd cost to have some custom built? I also imagine it will cost an arm and a leg to have something like that shipped, which is also why I'm considering custom. Also if I can have some input on which bumper to do first. My fj does not have a trailer reciever so I was leaning more toward getting a rear bumper first since I can have the reciever built into the bumper. I don't think i'd have as much need immediately for a winch as I would a trailer as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also anyone know what the going rate is for custom sliders for the fjc?

Anything one-off custom is going to cost more than a standard one in production for sure. How much just depends on the complexity, i.e. how much time it takes the fabricator to make it and what his hourly rate is. You shouldn't have a problem finding several 4x4 fab shops in SLC, but if I were you I would drive to Expedition One in Ogden and buy their bumpers (to save shipping), they have some of the very best production bumpers in existence for the FJC.

Without any basic design or materials spec'd out for your project it is pretty hard to say what it would cost. Seeing that aftermarket FJC bumpers are usually done in production runs by folks familiar with building bumpers (efficient), they will generally be cheaper than someone building a one off bumper on and FJC for the first time. Could be anywhere from $500-$3000 depending on what you want, material costs, and labor rates.

Go with whatever bumper you think would be more useful for your normal FJC use. That being said, a OEM receiver can be picked up pretty cheap and mounted onto the frame if you'd rather do the front first.

X3 with the above posts.

Adding the saying..."you get what you pay for". You find a fab shop that can make a bumper cheaper than a Demello, Exped1, Toy Outfitters, ARB, etc, I'd be hard pressed to believe it would be of better quality.

Yes, your quick solution is to find an OEM reciever and bolt it on. Hell, I have one in my basement but it would cost you as much to ship it to UT than its worth. Put a "wanted" thread in the "Parts Wanted" section here, same on FJCF and see what comes up.

Then you have the time to do some research to help determine what your needs are and will be before you drop some $$$ on custom, one-off bumper...

I actually had noooooo idea expedition one was in Utah. That is for sure where I'm gonna go as soon as I can round up some cash for it. Thanks for the awesome answers, I will make a parts wanted thread for that reciever.

Might want to also check ebay. I stopped at Toyoutfitters on my way up to PA a few winters ago and got NCFJ's rear bumper. Left the oem hitch at my folks house and I think it sold for something like $15 on ebay. Expedition one might actually have a hitch or two laying around as well. Also might want to check ricochet as I believe they have a lot of contacts out your way that have probably moved away from the oem hitch.
