We have rebuilt a bunch of 60/62 cases and I had a weird one happen on Sat.

62 case, 100% rebuilt and back in the truck. Works perfect, hi/low, 2wd/4wd no issues except a small ting ting sound that happened at random in all possible combos of tranny/TC lever positions. We could feel it a touch through the Tranny shifter. I assumed it was the heat shields or such hiting the driveshafts at random; no luck. This kicked our ass for a while then out came the FSM.

What had happened is that the spring that holds down and locates the parking brake pawl had slipped out of its hole. We had never touched it nor removed the extension housing where it is located. The pawl would engage the parking brake gear on the back of the tranny but would not disengage all the way and it was bouncing around in there; hence the ting ting sound. It must have slipped out when we were rolling the truck around sans transfer.

I bet we have done 40+ cases and this is a first for us. Check the spring and avoid "ting ting".

If we paint Nolen blue/green he can be the official TLCA Oompa Loompa.
