Well, I wanted to share some pictures of what I picked up this weekend for my TLC engine conversion...not (1) but (3) Vortec 5.3L motors with 4L60E transmissions, ECU, Wiring, etc. I know, I know what you are saying.....you only need one  But I couldn't pass up the opportunity on the other (2). Plus I figure SOMEBODY on here could use one......hint hint

I hope to begin my transplant in the coming weeks; AND document the build, and BTW, if anyone is looking for a good low mileage Vortec 5.3L motor/tranny/ecu/wiring/etc, let me know I have two extra  Located in Louisville, Ky

If you could figure out some cheap freight on getting one of them to So. Cal., I'd sure be willing to trade you some of the conversion pieces your going to need for one of those beauties!!

Hey Jim, I left you a voicemail this afternoon......let's try to touch base sometime tomorrow about my "shopping list"; and BTW, I get some pretty fantastic shipping quotes...so be careful what you wish for, one of these may show up on your doorstep.

Going to the Downey Catalog and seeing what all I need to trade for :grinpimp:

Another VW/Cruiser enthusiast, huh? :)
looks like a cool swap, I'll keep my eyes open for a build thread.

Nice! I was seriously looking at the 5.3s for my swap. I will be very interested in hearing what kind of mileage you get from that setup. I was estimating around 20mpg for all around usage. Most of them came in vehicles that weighed 7k, so I figured a 6k lb cruiser might do better.

Cool. I can just see you telling your wife you are going to pick up a engine for your cruiser and come back with 3. :)

The Vortec upgrade would be very tempting if I was looking for a new engine.

one for drive, one for reverse, and one as a spare...

hope you're keeping them indoors...

you'll enjoy the new drive-ability!!!

[Approved!] ;) After driving around w/ a Buick Roadmaster Estate (9C-1 Enforcer Caprice Internals) w/ the LT-1/Auto I guarantee you're gonna love how the 5.3 makes yours get up and move. :D Just be sure to go ahead and consider going in and checking/freshening things up so you don't run into any mystery ills later on. Keep it mostly stock if you do any work in it, they're powerful enough and don't need much done to them powerband wise to make one powerful 60 series. :D
