that's a nice 40.
On the one we recently did with an auto I found the original brake pedal height to be really annoying, so I made a custom brake pedal that lowers the pad so you can leave your heel rested on the floor. Huge improvement in ergonomics (I have them for sale on my site now).

Will check that out thanks. The height difference doesn’t seem to be an issue for me but great idea.

Sounds like you have knock sensors
Well that’s weird. When I quoted your comment the word ‘bad’ fell out. I replaced both sensors with new ones as well as the harness. Used the expensive ones that were suggested so I wouldn’t have to worry about them again. Worked for a couple months then they started tripping again. Did the silicone dam around them etc.

@cruisermatt can you stick a link in here for that brake pedal? I’m terrible at finding anything with search.

One problem I ran into with my pedal was interfering with the 2” steering column. I had to remove 1/8” of material on the pivot, right side if I remember correctly, and shim it on the left. This kept it from rubbing on the column.

@cruisermatt
My ‘67 is mounted so it is to the right of the steering column and like I said above, it had to be modified to fit with the 2” column. Yours mounts to the left of the column which would be a lot more comfortable. I almost feel like my brake pedal is overlapping the gas pedal.

Do you know how much clearance your pedal arm has between it and the stock 1.5” column? Heck, I thought I was good. I think I will be ordering one. Thanks.

Im not sure. The blue truck in the picture is home with it’s owner 7 hours away, I just ordered up a batch of them to build. Should be about two weeks.

You’ll really like it. Having the pedals close to the same height is WAY more comfortable with how often you are between the gas and brakes with the auto. I feel like I was on the brakes way more then I was on the gas with the 5.3/4l60 40 we built here.

Thanks. Ordered one. Hopefully it fits with my column.

Finally got a chance to mount that pedal @cruisermatt. Or I guess I should say tried to mount it. Either I’m missing something or there’s no way it will fit a ‘67. Any way I tried to thread it up and in it hit the steering column.
Been laid up with a Mitral valve repair since last week so when I get a chance I will send it back. Can’t drive for a month so it may be a bit. Nicely made product though.

Yeah, they only fit the +70 models with the removable pedal bucket. Sorry about that - I found out a few weeks ago. We’ll make a pre-70 version eventually. Shoot me an email and I can send you a return label.

I pulled the windows out. The rear and two rear quarter windows are in great shape except for the PURPLE tint. Must have been a seventies thing. The side windows are another deal altogether. They look like they are out of a trailer and are in pretty bad shape. View attachment 3724456View attachment 3724457
Any ideas on replacement windows? I guess I could have a glass shop cut a one piece window but I do like being able to slide them open for ventilation.
Are there any markings on those sliding window frames indicating a manufacturer?

A little update. About 9000 miles in the last year and nothing major. I had to replace the transfer case input seal and chased some speed wobble issues that turned out to be a wheel that had thrown its weight but nothing else serious.

Glad I kept it and modernized it a bit. The LS is just a strong, smooth, reliable motor and having the overdrive is awesome.

thanks for the update, I am nearing the finish line to start mine. Your build really mapped out what I needed for my project.

That’s great, congratulations!

Finally sent the ECM off last week to Garrett Tuning to have the knock sensors deleted. I understand the importance of them but when they are constantly tripping the check engine light under deceleration they really aren’t doing anything.
Life seems to be chugging right along. Got a new pup back in October to harass Cal in his golden years, back flying 60’s again and still putting miles on the 40.

Great thread and story!
Those sliding window frames are very hard to find, I’m sure they would be valuable to someone if you decided to go a different route.
Very few of those were made and they are impossible to find in the states, I’m thinking.

Congrats on stepping back and thinking about it, saving a truck and making all the new memories.

What's a Smart Ramp and do your dogs like it? Looking for a better way of getting my boy into the back of the truck.

My wife picked it up for our 10 year old GSD but he doesn’t trust it. The pup will go up and down it all day. It’s a 6’ collapsing ramp with a non-skid finish. I think my wife found it at a Goodwill store. She probably paid $5 for it.
