Hi Gents,

I tried to look in the forums but could not find a specific thread.
Does anyone have an advise on fitting the original altimeter/inclinometer to a HZJ74 where it originally was not attached? Do I just do 2 holes into the dash and screw it down or do I need to change the dash so it has a lowering for the meter?
What about the cable connection? Is there a prepared but unused connector to in the wiring?

Sorry if questions ask dumb, am new to the forum and also technically not most experienced but quite handy.

I am planning to do a thread with pics once I start with my rebuild so that other can take a look for their rebuilds.

Thanks upfront for ideas, pics and other to help me fit it.

Cheers,

Red

Hi Red,

the pod sits on top without modifying the foam. if you look from underneath, you should find the two holes under the foam for where the dash pod bolts into. You just have to then drill the foam, so the easiest is to remove the foam, just three bolts i think and three or four clips.

do you have a photo of the wiring plug for the unit?, i'm pretty sure that it will just have an earth and positive for the lighting circuit, so you will probably find a loose plug for that connection in the dash, but if you don't it will be very easy to tap into that circuit.

Cheers,

The dash pad has a recess to mount the pod but you can still mount them ok on a standard pad

Hi,

I have the one on the pic. 12v
So it seems like i need to get another Dashboard?

That's the same one I used mate but I pulled the insides out and used it to mount some autometer 2 5/8" gauges, it'll fit ok on a standard dash that's what I did until I came across a recessed dash pad

Thanks gents. Will try to do a few pics within the next two weeks and within that time also try to look for a recessed dashboard.
Is it easy to dismantle the old dashboard? Had a look on the thread from HZJ79LEE but am still not sure.. Will have a look at it once I am on holiday end of next week.

Everything comes apart fairly easily, I have removed the entire steel dashboard frame without any trouble but you won't need to do anything like that to just install the pod.
