This week's UK Autocar magazine has a brief "driving impressions" review of the new Land Cruiser.

They drove a 4.7 litre petrol version in Japan (I believe this is the only engine option available in Japan, at least initially).
Their conclusion - Like the old Land Cruiser, but better in every way. But you're still better off in a Range Rover.

They report that the 200 will be on sale in the UK in January 2008. Diesel is the only option mentioned for the UK, although I suspect we will get the 4.7 petrol version as an option. Then again, without the 5.7 litre petrol engine (reportedly destined for the US only) maybe not. After all, the diesel has almost exactly the same horsepower as the 4.7, but much more torque, and a 6-speed auto (5-speed in the petrol). On and off-road, diesel should be the performance choice, and if it is properly engineered I would expect it to match the petrol for quietness, smoothness and noise when extended.

Maybe the first diesel passenger car I buy.
