I did a search but never really found an answer to my question, so here goes. I'm considering the SBC sonversion in my 1987 FJ60 coupled to a Toyota 5-speed. My desire is NOT to ahve to modfy the floor for the shift linkage for the tranny and t-case. With that in mind, how close to the firewall does the motor sit. It has been suggested that I could move the tranny/t-case forward 1.5-2" without having to butch the floorboard and net about 1-1.5" clearance on the valve covers to firewall. The heater hoses would have to be modified, but that is about it.

Anyone have direct experience and can comment?

Thanks...Don

Without some sort of forward shift you will just barely be able to pull the distributor. IF you hammer/cut the rain lip on the firewall.

If you want to do this swap right. cutting new holes in the floor and filling the old holes will be a minor concern.

Of more import will be the relocated or modified crossmemember and the new driveshafts.

Move it, it is minor to cut holes when you look at the whole swap.
