Anyone built their own natural gas burner for a firepit? I had a large firepit poured in concrete (7' OD), and have an irregular planting area between the pool and main patio that would be awesome for a ground fire. It would be more cost effective for both areas if I made my own burners. Anyone done it and can recommend spacing and diameter for the actual holes in the burner? How about tubing diameter? I have an 1 1/4 line coming off the meter to supply it (was originally installed for a gas pool heater), so I don't think volume will be an issue.

The cast iron log starters I've installed are about 3/4 inch in diameter and the holes are every 1/2 inch on both sides. That said it would be lost in a 7 ft fire pit. A circular burner or one that had the burner pipes coming out like spokes might be better. For a flame that isn't lost in that fire pit you'll probably need a 1" line and I would do the burner tube at least 1" with 3/16 to 1/4 inch holes every 3/4 inch.

I'm waiting for a fire pit to be finished to do the install. The pit will have gas coming through water from what I understand (being built by an artist and I have no specs) It will be a 4 to 5 ft fire pit and I ran a 1" propane line.

I just looked them up and saw a cool one that dumps the gas through a burner pipe in a box full of broken tempered glass.

Thanks.

I've seen some beautiful designs with glass in the pit, but it's close to the pool, so I'll probably use lava rock.
