I finished installing the HFS 4" lift with shackles today. Most of everything was a breeze other than my diff angle in the back now. I did have to shave the front back bushings down where they squeeze in between the mount. No biggie with a bench grinder.

The lift rides and looks ten times better but I've got some major vib issues in the back. Yes I know, I should have measured the angles b/f I began but I'm too hard headed.

I installed a 4* shim up front and it seems to steer good and all but the back was giving me some vibrations so I took it appart and added a 4* to the rear with the flat side facing the rear bumper. Put it all back together and the vib is still there about the same.

Ok, I know you guys have told me but what is the correct way to fix this problem step by step??

Looks pretty good doesn't she!!

It is probably obvious but i would first take a look at the U-joinjts in the rear drive shaft. You may not have notices a vibration previously but now that there is more of an angle it could be amplified. I like to look at the easy stuff first.

Good luck!

On the rear axle, the flat side goes to the front. You could probably go without shims if you replaced u-joints.

Ok, I will have to check the u-joints. So the flat side goes towards the front?? I thought you wanted the two flanges to be parallel? If I mounted the shim flat side forward, the chunk would point more upwards?

I do have a mini truck front shaft. I need to just swap it out. Isn't that what people use?

By flat side, I thought you meant the thin side. The thin side goes up front, the thick side towards the rear. this points the pinion down to make the pinion and tcase output parallel.

But like I said before, it is more than likely your u-joints. I don't run shims and I have a 4" lift and extended shackles with no vibration.

Wow, thanks for the info. Yeah, I'm sure their the original ones. Probably need changing anyways. I'll see what I can do.

Another simple thing to check

Even before you start thinking about replacing U-joints, be sure your drive shaft is in phase (i.e. the yoke ears line up with each other).
Nice looking rig, too!
Cheers,
Alfred

Would they be out of phase if its never been off??

Thats one hell of a good looking Cruiser. I think I have Cruiser envy. Glad that everything worked out well with the lift and all.

When did you get the lift from CCOT? I've been waiting almost two months and am supposedly going to get it in the next two weeks. I'd sure like to hear you got it in the last few days!

Sorry man, I got it from a buddy here on the board. Yeah, I didn't want to wait that long either. I almost got the OME lift. Good luck with it!

wow! that looks amazing.

about the rear vibration. if you take off the rear driveshaft and then lock the hubs and put it in 4wd then take it for a ride, you'll be able to know if the problem is in the shaft or not.... sound reasonable?

when you put your shims on are you still able to be sure you are properly aligning the spring pack on the spring perch? could one be slightly more forward or rearward than another? does the truck pull to one side or the other?

i once drove over two hundred kms, some of it through the bush, some of it on the highway with only my front driveshaft.

Yeah, I may try that to see. Everything is properly aligned too. I hope its the joints but if not I will figure it out.

Wesley,

Make sure you park at the other end of the parking lot from me when you go to the meeting. I don't want to be embarassed by parking next to you...

Good looking rig!

I've had the driveshafts come from the factory out of phase, so don't assume it can't happen. It's an easy thing to check and fix, if present. I use the flat sides of the yokes to eyeball that they are lined up properly.

If that's all good, then as was previously posted, check out the ujoints.

Well, I got new u-joints today and WOW, what a difference. The vibration is gone. Thing rides great! Here are a few poser shots in my back yard. This is the only place I had the chance to try a little flex. I can tell their going to ride and flex great. My front drivers side shock does rub a little on my steering rod but probably nothing to worry about. Thanks for all the help guys!!
