I've been wanting to do this for a while now. I've owned 6
Toyota's and always disliked how large, tall, bulky and in the way these knobs are to me (just my opinion) so I wanted a way to get it knocked down and out of the way. This process killed the safety "stops" so if I'm my careful I could shift into reverse at 70 mph but I'll be careful. Now to get faux wood on the rest of the console to match.

Looks good! Is it a purchase or did you make it? Did you switch the shaft out or cut it and run a die? Do tell!

This was more or less a test for a future shift knob that matches the faux wood. Auto parts store purchase. Had to cut down the stalk, snip the wires for the O/D and grind the stalk down enough to slide the new knob over it. Then I threaded the stalk and threaded the knob on. If you do it this way, you not only delete the safety stops between drive and reverse, but you have to pull the plug on the solenoid that is connected to the brake pedal application for shift release or you won't be able to remove your key from the ignition. Someone with more patience could design a push down knob like acuras have to re-enable the safety locks but it isn't that important to me.
