I am getting ready to paint my crusier, the largest painting job I have ever done. I want to use an etching primer because of the rust problem we have out here on the sandbar. I have heard of a 'filler etching primer' anybody have some insite?

It looks like ill be using a martin sr paint, single stage so its easy and close to stock looking. How much sin can I get away with using this primer? I have some rust divots (lack of a better term) my the cowell that I would like to paint over and not bondo but I am not sure if the primer would be enough?

The rest of the body isnt bad at all I am planning on having everything media blasted (garnett) so it will be all cleaned of old paint, rust, etc. I have done a ton of work to avoid using bondo and I want to use as little as possible.

If you can see rust pits now, you will definitely see them after the media blast, probably even more that you didn't know about, and still see them after paint.

It's o.k. to use bondo, yes I said it, it's o.k. As long as it doesn't cover rust it will work fine for years. Bondo, or filler, gets a bad rap because people use it when body panels rust through. Obviously that is only a temporary fix.
