I am trying to mount a used fiberglass body back on my frame. I think it needs spacers besides the new bushings on a fiberglass tub. I need to know where and how thick. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what kind of tub? what year is the tub supposed to represent? what year frame? Did you have the tub on that frame before?

The tub I think is a mallote. It is a diff. frame its a 78. The truck was a complete running 73 fj 40 but the origional owner installed the tub and I feel he rigged spacers in it. The frame was bad and I am replacing w/ a 78 frame. If i could find dimensions from the underside of the floor to the top of the body mount on the frame at all mounts from a metal tub that would solve my prob. I think i remember a U shape piece of metal weded at some of the mounts on a stock tub, But its been 10 years since my last cruiser build. The fiberglass one through bolt at some of the mounts.:wrench:

I just installed an aluminum tub on a '74 using Energy Suspension body mounts. The 2 mounts that mount the cowl to the frame are about 3/4 inch thick. All of the rest are about 3/8 inch. Hope this helps.

I think the aluminum tub is different. I have the energy susp. kit as well. your tub pobably has U shaped backets that are welded to the underside of the tub right?

Sorry, mine's Gozzard on a 1980 frame, so I can't help : (

Yes, its different, but it also bolts through the tub from the top at all mounts except the first one behind the cowl which is under the front of the seats.

I don't know fiberglass tubs, but maybe if you place the tub on the frame with the thick (~3/4)spacers at the cowl and the thin(~3/8) ones on the rear bumper than you can measure the gap at all of the other mounts to determine the spacer required. Just a thought.

Mallot bodies did take spacers in the past. When I did mine, I had a 24" piece of spacer material that I cut to fit on a band saw. I can't remember now where I got the stuff, but it was a urathane material.

Thanks I think if somone has a stock metal body they can measure from the underside of th floor to the top of the steel mount on the frame. I really need the 1st and 2nd back from the firewall.
