Well, that was an easy one. One call and found and old school shop that does solid work. Was able to fix the drain cock and found another leak also fixed while I waited. Love when I find these cool old places, said his dad bought it in 1969. Has been there since the 50's!

We buy radiators for those Isuzu NPR W3500 Cabover chassis trucks more than I care to think about. I am surprised by the number of plastic replacements. My guess is you ain’t fixing plastic like this. Brought my 1947 Ford 8N tractor radiator to a shop near work and he just smiled…like a visit from a old friend

Yes, we got into that discussion re cheap garbage that many car/trucks have now. Most of the time yes, they are not repairable. Just replaced the plastic one in my suby.

Synthetic in new vehicles you’re gonna run lots of stressful miles, you’re wasting your money in a weekend project vehicle. Decent GL-4 and forget it …
The NAPA 90W gear oil is GL4.
I asked Georg about it and he said it was fine.
I think a big thing is don't run dry, and change your fluids!

@Tomba I feel for you … in the last 60 years that I have been an active “tinkerer” I have had a few things I had worked on or with, that ultimately were a waste of time. As I look back, out of maybe 20 really stupid attempts at something….only 5 had absolutely nothing I had learned from it….So, maybe not a complete waste…. But, time will tell. One day, you’ll be ready to do SOMETHING and, you’ll remember doing this zinc project and a monumental twist will actually bring you that success from this s#!t experience
I know its optimistic
This ^^^

Chances are you learned something. It cost you time and a few $$$ - tuition, right?

I agree. Although right now I'm not sure what I learned from this one. Am sure there may be a lesson and time will tell what that might be. The good news is I can continue with my regular scheduled project that's been SLOWLY moving fwd. This zinc sub project was a hold up but I guess I'm ok with having zebra striped yellow zinc parts here and there.
All the cool kids have zebra stripes, right Evan??? @fj55-100

2 steps forward one back. Filled the t-case and trans w oil 💪. Flushed the block, radiator and heater core 💪. Noticed I left what I thought was the drain cock screw open, perfect for what I was doing . I was gonna filler up w coolant /water. I shoulda looked closer before attampting to tighten that 19mm bolt . There is a screw that plugs the drain sitting in the box where I left it. Oops. The local radiator shop recently closed too.:(

Any radiator guy named Merv is going to do it right!!!

After speaking with someone here on Mud who has figured out this zincing process, I went down another rabbit hole again and did some simple math on calulating the area of just one piece to be a bit more precise on current needed before inlisting my fav LLM to do calculations. What I was missing was a bubblier, an adjustable DC power supply and some brightener for the zinc solution. I'll be sure to post some pics of the latest attempts on zinc /yellow chromating.

Most of us turn the paper over when we get to the bottom.....looks like you just rotate 180 and keep on trucking. :D
hahaa, yeah I rotated the paper to measure one of the triangles hence the upside down calcs. Eexcited to see if this works. the last piece of the puzzle arrives tomorrow.. Zinc Brightener

Would you have any use for a variac?
(a variac changes line voltage and is the first and most expensive part in a variable DC supply.)
I recently came back from a pick with 3 or 4 more good used variacs...
10-15 amp units.
