Ive had a cable push/ pull heater valve from an fj60 and finally got around to replacing the original valve which required opening the hood and then opening the heater valve, so today I did a bit of necessary plumbing.

Thoase look great!
Thanks! Good thing I took the pics of the early pieces as the zinc bath gets out of sync easily. Home brew zincing is not easy. I think its best to spend 100 and get the caswell zinc solution. Otherwise its nearly impossible to get shinny yellow finish on the chromate. But Ive got budget concerns so I'll have to revisit this part of the "project" at a later time.

Closer today! thermostat in and finally connected the front drive line and took her fpr a quick spin down the street but still overheating. Think I may have some air in the system. Tried burping it with the front end jacked up but didnt see any air escaping. coolant not flowing 😕 At the end mf my rope here.

You open drain on side of block??
Thanks. Not yet. It that a likely spot for air to hide?
I discovered that the old original heater valve (with the handle missing )is till attached and likely closed too. I'll try opening that to see running the fluid through the heater helps dispurse the air.

How hot does it get in a quick spin and how are you measuring it? They sell fancy burpers for radiators, I made my own.

Gets to 200 quickly. using a kitchen thermometer. Yeah I am looking at these burper kits now although I like your version.... not sure I have something that would fit a stock radiator. I shut it down immediately when I see the temp approaching the top line on the dummy gauge.

Same radiator cap so probably same size.
I don't need to remind you how inaccurate the stock gauge is and how a grounded sending wire can send the gauge needle to the hot side. It's really easy to install a real gauge with numbers on it. I happen to think that engine temp is so important that I installed two real engine temp gauges in-dash. Perhaps as important as oil pressure.
It's not easy to overheat an F engine on a quick spin but can be done if you have no coolant, the waterpump is not pumping water or the radiator is clogged. And you've got coolant. A little bubble probably won't matter, remember, these came without coolant recovery bottles and usually had a bubble in them. When did you last have the radiator core rodded out? or re-cored?

Never. Seemed to work with the other engine until I spun a bearing. I had a small repair done recently and was pressure tested but not sure on the actual core health. Oh yeah, a real gauge cluster is on my list ...vac , oil pressure, water temp

I Was hoping for an easier /cheaper solution. 🤔

Never came close to anything like that in over 60 years…WITH ANYTHING

He and I have been in conversation via text message throughout the weekend and most of the day today.
I think he found the root of his overheating problem but ill let him fill you in on the details...

Thanks for all the doirection on this, esp TT. As it turns out, I am related to Jethro. I didnt even do the simple gazinda math. The coolant gazinda the radiator.
I was waaaaay low on coolant. Once I added the proper amount (1gal), my temp and the engine temp both wen down to the ptoper reading.... :)
