line, hook & fairlead...about $240-ish... from OK 4 wheel drive... in OK (duh)...like 13K lb strength (maybe more... all I remember is that it's way stronger & safer that cable, 5/16 line...100' of it... lots lighter...so I prolly get like 10 more mpg now easy...

Sweet. I'm glad you posted this because we about to pull the trigger on a winch and I wanted to use synthetic line too. Steel line looks great until it's used once, and it's all down hill from there. I haven't seen any local trucks with synth line yet, so I will prolly have to order some off the internet.

Huh? Steel line is cheap, works great, lasts for years, is unaffected by sunlight and is rarely sliced by the sharp edges of rocks. It is relatively heavy, but If I remember, on my 125 pound M12000, the cable weighs 30-35 pounds. It's important to keep "heavy" in perspective.

I like the idea of the synthetic line, but objectively steel cable works just fine. I may get some synthetic line at some point, but the performance of steel cable is not lacking. I am unconvinced that the current crop of synthetics will ever replace steel cable.

synth.line SAFETY

That is the main reason I went this route... steel will break before the synthetic will...it's not as strong, period... and sythetic line doesn't store energy like steel...so snap back is next to none should it go...just a biggy to not have to really worry about

If I had to use it frequently I'd probably go with synthetic. Hauling heavy steel, even if only a bit heavier, can get old real quick. However, I don't feel so good about having the very expensive synthetic collecting dust and grit and needing a good cleaning in case of use. It might weaken with long term exposure to UV rays or just grit. Steel just needs a couple of squirts of oil and I can legitimately expect it to be strong provided I keep rust away with the oil.

So I stay with steel because I don't often use it. I like the idea of synthetic, but I have more than enough PM's to live with and don't want to add any more.
