COASTAL CRUISER MEETING FEBRUARY 9,2006
We met at Moxie’s Restaurant at the Sandman Hotel at 3233 St. Edwards St. in Richmond at 6:00 pm for supper. They refer to themselves as “upscale casual.” Actually it is a good place, the food is good, prices ok, and the servers are every bit as attractive as Earl’s. In fact, Dr. Rob even hung around later for quite a while chatting with our server while the rest of us shivered outside!
The meeting convened about 7:45 with the following members present:
Greg B, Jim & Lindsay C, Garry C, Marcin C, Bruce D, Norm F, Clarence G, Chris H, Rod McD, Mike McT, Dr. Rob, Mike N, Brad R, Phil S, Steve S, Steve T, Jeff S, Martin S, Gary T, Bill W.
Guests: Rob Mullen & Karr Smith.
Agenda:
1) Cruiser Days will be named something else since that is a Toyota Dealer identified Trademark. Allstone will be the Committee Coordinator. Phil will supply the power plant and Audio equipment, Jim, Lindsay, and Denny will do T-shirts, Dr. Rob will be Master of Ceremonies, Steve T will negotiate with Toyota Dealers, Greg B will do First Aid if he’s not working. WE URGE ALL MEMBERS TO GET ACTIVE AND PARTICIPATE IN DEVELOPING THIS PROJECT. WE NEED EVERYBODY’S HELP TO MAKE IT SUCCESSFUL. We still need to address things like parking attendants, canopy tents with tables & chairs, raffle ticket sales and prizes, food sales, booths, other sponsor prizes, site rental and insurance, posters, Toyota Trail advertising, camping & wheeling organization, and more.
2) We talked about this month’s successful Clear Creek Run, and the oncoming “Forbidden Mtn” run, River Shiver, May Big Bar run May 20-22 to Churn Creek Provincial Protected area near the Gang Ranch, Whipsaw and Cascade Wilderness area, Yalacom R. and Swartz Lake, Quesnel Canyon, and possible more local trips to Margaret Pass and Chehalis Lake TBA.
3) The VHF radios worked well on the Clear Creek Run Jan 28, even just using the rubber duck antennas. It is hoped that other members will get their HAM qualifications and new radios in the near future. For course information, contact Ron Kolody at
ronk@telus.net.
4) Greg Bowie spoke about the possibility of establishing a Fraser Valley Chapter of CC. Dr. Rob pointed out that we probably need to talk to TLCA about this to make sure that a new Chapter would be recognized. In any case, leadership is needed if this idea is to fly.
5) The meeting raffle was dominated by Mike McT when he won first and second prizes of combination wrench sets. Gary T won the tap & die set. Also quite a few spare parts for FJ60 engines were given out, donated by Keith Kisselback.
The meeting broke up around 10:30 as members drifted off into a haze of diesel smoke, while across the street, desperate hopeful gamblers fed their rent money into the one-armed bandits in pathetic attempts to beat the River Rock house odds and overhead the 737s careened toward their programmed destiny at YVR.
