Can someone who doesnt mind crawling under there truck push up (as in towards the hood) on there driver side CV axle and tell me how much play is there?

I just took in my differential to have it rebuilt for the 'up and down' play i had, felt under another tacoma and it had the same play- Felt under an 06 (different diff?) and it had the same play.

My rebuilder says he has seen them like this, and it may not be worth messing with... I told him to tear it apart and see whats going on because I did find this mess hidden in there.

I didn't do as you requested but I know axle assemblies are reasonable $$
I put new ones in 18months ago for about $80/each. AND it was an easy job to do.
I figured that 150K on the original equipment was good and it is easier to change them in the shop than when they might want to fail on a trip.

Its not the CV axle... Its the bearing they rest on!

I'm at a loss as to why toyota would design them like this.
