So I just picked up an 06 Land Cruiser without the NAV. The plan is to install an Alpine ilx-107 (only aftermarket unit that supports wireless carplay). I would like the install to look as OEM as possible, partially due to aesthetics but also for theft prevention - i street park in a city, so having something that looks obviously aftermarket is a liability.

Here is what my current setup looks like

there are a number of kits available from international sellers, most of them appear to be made by Carav (Chinese sellers) as well as Autoleads (UK sellers) for all I know these are made in the same factory. Was curious if anyone has any experience installing these trim kits and if they match in terms of color and fit.

TOYOTA LANDCRUISER 100 1998 to 2007 SILVER FASCIA FACIA ADAPTOR PANEL DFP 11-15 | eBay

Dash kit for Toyota Land Cruiser 100 Lexus LX-470 2003-2007 fascia stereo panel | eBay

Also If anyone can point me to the right harness, so I don't have to hack up the stock wiring - that would be lovely....

They're probably the same. I'd order the one from Europe, only because it says dfp 11-15. That's the one we all know is standard DD, not toyota DD.

Harnesses I'm not sure. People tell me the metra ones work fine, and there is a steering wheel button kit also.

Metra 70-8113 will give you everything to power your new headunit, you’ll have to get reverse cam signal from somewhere else. I recommend getting an electrical wiring diagram for the whole car.

Metra 70 8116 will basically give you the above and also allow you to use the factory speaker wires. I think this is the best option.

I ordered one of the Chinese made ones, it’s not bad but apparently there is an one Toyota one with better fitment, more expensive though.

I have a alpine ilx207, it is a fantastic head unit and is made in Japan, which is hard to come by these days.

awesome, sounds like you'know this path well - out of curiosity did you do anything to integrate the steering wheel buttons? Did you install a rear cam?

Sorry - one more question, does anyone know the spec on the factory (non mark levinson) amp? trying to figure out if the 18w RMS alpine unit is better than the stock amp....

I half assed tried to get an swi-cp2 to work, but didn’t spend much time diagnosing the issue(didn’t care much about steering wheel controls) I think there are some metra adapters for certain lexuses that will work, the way to check is to look at the connector shown in the metra manual vs the one in the EWD. I reused the factory cam because I didn’t feel like tearing apart the entire interior to get the signal. You need a 12v to 6v converter and a rca pigtail.

Personally I would bypass the factory amp and use the head unit to power the speakers. That's what I did during my stereo install and I actually took that whole factory amp out from under the seat. I put in a new aftermarket amp in it's place to power some subwoofers in the rear.

Good Luck!

Eclipse used to make all the navigation units for Toyota and they made aftermarket stereos and nav units. Eclipse is/was under the Denso umbrella of companies. I had one of their nav head units on my old Tundra and there was a plug in the back of the aftermarket unit for the steering wheel controls. Plugged right in and worked perfectly!

There might be an updated option out there. My experience was 10+ years ago.

Thank you all, I noticed that some sellers are selling dash mounting kits that looks like this:

Are these necesary or will the standard double din cage fit?

Depends on if the din fascia you buy is over sized. The Chinese one I ordered needed them to I went ahead an used them. Doesn’t look bad. You won’t be able to fit the cage I don’t think. The new unit will fit only buy itself, as the brackets behind it are like exactly 7 inches apart

Those fit the standard Toyota Double Din extended gap. Used them in a Scion Xb and a Tundra.

Here is my whole head unit swap process for a LX470 98 LX Radio and Speaker Install

I list all the parts and factory amp bypass steps with pictures.
