Lol, trash talk and ridicule.....
I'm a Cleveland Browns fan, enough said?
The following is a true story....
Back in '88 or '89 I walked into a huge sports bar here in Glendale called Max's. My friends and I would go there because they had a billion satellite dishes all over the roof and parking lot of the establishment and got every football game live. You know it was back in the days when a dish was a dish at 12' across, the time before Direct TV and the NFL Sunday Ticket Package.
A little back story history here on the place first... Max's used to sit the two teams' fans that caused the most trouble away from everyone else including the team's fans who they were playing that day. Those two teams fans were the Raiders and the Browns. If you were one of those team's fan bases then usually you were sequestered into the farthest corner rooms of the bar or exiled into the dinner theater portion, completely in a separate area, to watch their games in private.
SO.... One Sunday I figured I would go to the bar a little early and meet some friends of mine who were Steeler fans and catch the last part of their game before the Broncos vs. Jets game was on. I paid my $10 cover charge, got my $10 in Max's coupons and looked at the broadcast map where the Broncos game was to be shown and where the Steelers game was being broadcast. The Broncos game was to be in the area of the bar called the North End Zone room and the Steelers were in the 50 Yard Line Room. I then proceeded to head to the North End Zone room first to see if any of my fellow Bronco fans were there yet.
I walked into the room in full Bronco colors and was greeted promptly with a barrage of insults, obscenities, and a wave of napkins, paper plates, plastic french fry baskets, and whatever else could be thrown. First thought to mind was, "Wow, there are some rowdy Jets' fans here today", then I was snapped back to reality by the guys sitting at a table closest to me yelling "Get the hell outta here Fag! There's no one in here that would associate with you!". I looked at them and then around the room where it was a sea of Browns colors and jerseys and everyone of them were looking and yelling at me now. I then started saying "Ahhh, Browns fans, I see" and started backing and bowing my way out of the room while repeating that phrase. Upon my exit as I turned to head to the 50 yd Line, a little waitress who was headed into the room with a tray full of beer looked at me and said...
"Hun.. now that wasn't very smart of you to go walking in there, with them, wearing an Elway jersey. What were you thinking? You know how much they hate that man after those games"
She went on to say that she saw me walk in there while waiting for her drink order and that, "I had made her as nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs".
What I had not noticed when I looked at the game broadcast map, was that they had placed the Browns fans in the North End Zone to watch their days match-up with the Steelers, prior to the Broncos vs. Jets game. Needless to say I went on into the 50 yd line, met my Steeler friends, and we laughed at what had just happened.
So, I do understand where you are coming from Splitshot!
