Does anyone have any experience with this tire?

https://www.falkentire.com/tires/light-truck-suv-cuv-tires/rubitrek/t-tire

I'm thinking about them for my incoming Nori Green GX in the XL load range as I tow a 5000lb trailer on occasion.

They appear to be made in Thailand rather than the AT3W which can be made in either China, USA, or Thailand now. Also, I really don't need quite as aggressive of tire as the AT3W as I'm on pavement 90% of the time or more and I don't do any rock crawling. I do need the 3PMSF rating as I live in Nebraska and we have a winter.

Any problems that anyone can think of with them for my use case? Would I really gain anything by going to the E1 BFGoodrich KO2 or E1 Maxxis RAZR AT811?

The last set of KO2's I had caused my steering wheel to shake on my 4Runner for the first several miles of a drive at highway speeds so I was thinking of avoiding them if possible.

From Falken (I just found online), "Thank you for contacting Falken Tire. Between the Rubitrek and WildPeak AT3W both tires perform the same, the WildPeak AT3W is more aggressive tread and sidewall pattern. Rubitrek is quieter and has a lower UTQG rating (600AB vs 660AB). The Rubitrek is only available to certain dealers so it might be a little harder to find. Both have a 55k mileage warranty, 30 Day Ride and limited road hazard warranty"

Personally, the use and specifics you mentioned seemed to nail it on the head. Light off road use, correct XL (aka C load range?) rated for occasional towing, 3 peak rated, good price point, etc.

I run the Wildpeak AT3s with similar use, likely a little heavier on the offroad use needs and lighter on the towing use, but very similar overall.

What the Rubitrek seems to offer is a little finner tuned use for on road comforts while trying to limit compromise on the offroad performance, compared to a Wildpeak AT3W (and thus K02, Dynapro ATM, etc etc). They also come in at a $40 a tire savings it seems.

If I was you, I'd give them a try.

Thanks for the reply!

I've been trying to figure out what to do using logic rather than "that tire looks neat" criteria so I'm glad you think I'm on the right track.

I'll see if I can find out where they're made for sure and go from there.

ETA: Falken says they are made in Thailand but he wasn't sure why I cared that they weren't made in China since they have the same Japanese QA people at all of their plants. I guess I am just being picky.

I now have it in an email from Falken that this tire is only made in Thailand currently so I ordered 5 of them from Walmart of all places at they are $187ea there right now. If for some reason they aren't I'll just return them to Walmart.

We'll see how I like them once my GX gets here.

I'm going to have the Lexus dealership install them, road balance them, and perform an alignment. I asked about buying the tires from them but they said they can't get this tire from their distributors, however, I could just bring them in and they'll mount them.

The tires showed up today and all are marked Made in Thailand...woot!

The tire also has the OD and OW molded into it and are listed as 31" and 10.5" respectively. That OD makes them about perfect in my view for those of us that don't want to lift their vehicles yet want a little larger than OEM tire that will still fit in the spare tire area with the OEM tow hitch.

Now all I need is for my new GX to arrive. I see that some Black Line Edition's are being delivered to customers in California and mine is supposed to be at the port by the 24th so I'm really hoping I get it by mid-October.

I think you've done what I was going to do - just a slightly larger tire that fits almost as stock while I enjoy the newness of the truck without lifting. I have the truck, you have the tires, and with our powers combined...

LOL.

I just don't really want to lift it yet I wanted better tires than the H/T that come on it so these made the most sense.

I just wish I could find out what ship my GX is on but my dealer has no idea, Lexus corporate says to talk to my dealer, and I'm just left in limbo as to when it will actually arrive.

It was supposed to leave Japan around 9/4 but I can't find any other information out beyond that which is frustrating.

I need the 3 peaks to get over Donner Pass here in California without stopping for chains, so I will have to do it eventually. I tell you what though, those Michelin Latitudes it comes with are super comfortable.

Yeah we have nasty winters here too which is why I wanted the 3PMSF rating.

From what I've seen the Black Line SE's are coming with Bridgestone Dueler H/T 840's which appear to be pretty poor tires for anything but dry or rain.

Rubis on stock suspension. Tires performed great on a recent trip to Angel Fire/Taos.

Reviving this thread. Any long term updates on the rubis? Currently debating between wildpeaks and rubitrek

I have 26,000 miles on my set now, in size P265/70R17. They are still quiet and comfortable, with approx. 500 of those miles on dirt. They're also surprisingly capable in the snow/ice, as I live in Reno and regularly drive across Donner pass to Sacramento (especially with the winter we're having now). I haven't had any complaints other than I should have bought these in 285/70. They have been through 4 sets of wheels, and have balanced great every time.

That being said, I only have experience against an unbalanced set of LT275/70 E Load BFG K02s so take this with a grain of salt.

Same as jdam above. Tires have worn great, and they ride nice too for an A/T. I've had both the Wildepeaks and Rubis, and both have been awesome in all weather conditions. I think t really comes down to look, and I would lean toward the Rubis.

My last set of tires were the rubitreks 265/70/17. Performed great, even on moderate trails and rocks. They were on the rig when I bought it, so don’t have a lot of perspective with the GX with anything else, but I’ve had the AT3W on other trucks and the rubitreks are definitly a bit less aggressive and quiet.
Unfortunately now I have k02s… found a cheap used set on the marketplace Just to hold me over for a bit and work out the details of fiting 35s then I’m going to upgrade to something like the Mickey Thompson EXPs. But I’m not so worried about road manners anymore.
Anyway, I definitly recommend the rubitreks for an overland rig that’s going to see mostly fire roads and campsites with some moderate trails thrown in. Also decent in the snow.
