Well, crap. My 60 failed... grrrr.

CO: 180.23 (down from 199.64 when PO did it last) - FAILED
HC: 3.94 (down from failing 4.62) - PASSED

I know there's a problem with the coolant/thermostat - engine runs hot, hoses need replacing, cooling system needs flushing, BAD. The paper says that could cause high CO.

I adjusted the carb as best I could, and it idles fine and doesn't smell like it's running rich anymore... I checked the valve clearances and they all seemed fine. I replaced about 75% of the vaccuum hoses (all of the ones around the carb, some of the others as well). The cat doesn't rattle when I bang on it, but that doesn't mean it's not bad.

Any ideas?

I failed with high CO in the 2F powered FJ40. New plugs and CHANGED THE OIL got me to a passing state. Don't forget HB 2357 has passed. Get classic insuranceand no more smog test!

try adding a bottle of rubbing alcohol to the tank about 20 miles prior to your next test and retard the piss out of your timing.
