So I am quickly approaching the end of my 3yr/36k warranty on my Tundra. In this time I have had the following warranty work done:
Gas pedal recall (probably bogus)
Front Diff Rebuild
Serp belt and tensioner
rear cab mounts replaced
front trim piece replaced

Now I already feel that this truck isn't quite the quality I was expecting from Toyota.

I know that Kieran's (Vtcruiser60) truck is the same truck as mine and only a month off in production date has had an issue with the air injection pumps going. Which can cost as much as $4000 if out of warranty.

Anyway I an still get a Toyota Factory Platinum extended warranty if I do it before the 3yr/36k is up. Originally at the dealer they wanted like $2000 for it. No chance at that cost but now I find that there are some dealers which will sell it for a lot less (yes I it is the actual Toyota factory backed warranty). I would like to get the 8yr/100k and I had heard it can for a littke over than $1000.

What are peoples thoughts? Should I pull the trigger now or roll the dice.

Here is the link to the coverage:

If you can get 8yr/100k platinum warranty for around $1G, that is cheap. Just make sure it is from Toyota; I know dealers will try to sell you after market warranty, which sounds and looks like from Toyota, but it is not.

You may want to do a search on 100 forum, I asked the same question few years back when I was shopping for a LC100, and there was a member who sells Toyota warranty at a very reasonable price.

Also, you can get extend warranty from AAA, a friend of mine had one, never an issue when filed a claim.

If you intend to keep it get the warranty. To me, if it can't make it to 36k without issue it would be history. I normally get an extended on low mileage LC's but haven't needed them.(As it should be) Last one was nonToyota and I was able to redeem it for full value since there was no claim against it.

I'm only thinking about this since shopping to replace the 100. So far I'm not impressed by Toyota.

Well the first quote I got was for $1215. Still waiting on another three places. I guess that the 4x4 Tundra is in a higher tier that what I found on the internet.

I used to own a 2000 4runner with the 2.7 in it with the 5spd and I had the extended 100k warrenty on it and it paid for itself. For some reason it had exhaust valve problems and had to have the top end done twice. the 2nd time they ended up put a new head on it. I know when it happened both times that truck would have been a lawn ornament had it not been for that, money was tight for repairs. Because of that experience my wife just bought an 05 4runner and got the extended warrenty also.

I even think about getting rid of it and my wife starts giving me sh!t. So I tell her I'm going to look into the extended warranty to the tune of $1200 and she is fine with it. I like the truck and all I just don't want to be facing a $2k+ repair bill with less than 100k miles.

definitely get it. I paid an extra $800 for the 100k extended warranty on my Prius. The fact I don't have to worry about anything for the next 48,000 miles was worth it. Toyotas don't break often but very few repairs on a Tundra will be under $1200

Call Boch Toyota. I got my car from them. they were typical car dealers but the prices were great.

I sent a request throught Boch's website. I ended up buying my truck there. Nobody could come close to matching their price.

As much as I agree with the others given the issues you've had, I'd be buying it too, it just seems a shame that we have to pay "extra" to a company to back up their product....there is something just not right about that. Guess I'm just too old school that way. I do think that there should be limits to a product that will see wear, but maybe at least for the life of an average loan. I just think 3 yrs 36k is not enough...in my opinion :)

J - try Nai Ko Jr (owner) at Wellesley Toyota for a quote and let him know you're from YT. Worth a shot.

Rear wheel bearings are getting more common too.

The only major problem I have seen that costs way to much are the air pumps. The whole system is junk. First you start with the pump, the the driver, then the computer. Before you know it you are over 4k to get the CEL off.

I do have to say Ive only seen one or two air pumps in the past year. Most have been fixed by now.

So I pulled the trigger. I was suprised that a number of people didn't call me back. I purchased it from this guy. He was noted on the a number of forms and nobody had anything but good things to say about him. Final price was $1159 for an 8yr/100k $0 deductable plan.

Yeah....just read this thread and am now wondering about the same. That air pump problem I had really made me blink at this truck. Its a really, really bad design that can happen again.

Jason, I'll hit you with a PM for more specifics. If it is the same warranty, seems wise to purchase.
