Got a quick question for the group. I finally waited long enough and a company here in the US is building repro soft top bows. So I don't have to wait 6 months for a Ehsen top. You can check out all the stuff they offer here www.heritagesheetmetal.com/. Some cool but not cheap offerings. My question is this I have a 72 FJ40 which was a factory soft top model. Did this soft top model have a rollbar? I have a rollbar now but I believe it came from a 78 or 79 model. I wanted to find out that if I chose to go with a OEM style soft top do I have to run my cruiser with out the bar so the top fits. Thanks for any insights you can give.

Yeah...but the price!!!

It would still be cheaper to get the bows and top from Ehsan, even with shipping.

Heritage's price of $580+ (plus shipping?), then the price of the top from SOR or Kayline (who make reproduction OEM tops) would surely be well over what an Ehsan top w/ bows is..

I am not sure about the roll bar..I would be curious too, as I have a 72 and would like to have an OEM style top eventually as well.

72s came with no roll bar, they started in 73.
Eshans top with bows come out to over $1k with all the shipping.
I'm just gpnna steal some bows from a guy out in Indiana next time I'm out there.

$1500 is what I figured for getting an Ehsan top to Ohio. There is a company that advertises in Toyota Trails that does OEM style tops for $500 or so, if you got the bows. It is almost a wash with the Ehsan except for the 6-8 month wait.

I wish I knew someone who had the factory bows and would let me borrow them for a month or so. My best friend is an Industrial Designer and is a master fabricator building stock cars for Chip Ganassi racing in Charlotte. He could build me a set no problem.

I have a set of bows from Eshan South of Cleveland, but they are installed. I bought an Eshan Top with the first group order my total was $600 shipped to my door. PM me before you buy one of the tops.

OEM top fits over the factory roll bar with no problems. The hard top is actually a tighter fit than the soft top. If you're building a roll cage build it to fit the hard top. If you build it to fit the OEM soft top the hard top might not fit.

I was following some of the recent group buy threads, and I thought people were getting them for $600-$700. But, yeah, waiting months for something like that would be tough.

I really want one of these...I have a Kayline (now specialty top co.), light grey (charcoal) that I haven't put on yet -- still brand new. I have debated about selling it and eventually getting an OEM type. I just like the look a lot better.

Let me know if you sell that ugly pos kayline top ;)

Just got a new larger workshop. The wait will soon be reduced to 50% or even more.. :)
