Has anyone here used the factory rack to carry a 120lb roof top tent ? Going from Denver to Missouri and back. Slee can modify a 100 series load bar system to work, but if the oem would work i would'nt mind saving about 7 bills. Thanks for any input.

The stock roof rack should hold up to 450 lbs. I've had close to that up top for 2500 miles before, and no issues...slow into the wind, but no issues.

Resurrecting an old thread, what is the factory aero crossbar load limit? The Owners Manual does not say.

I used an old set of Yakima round bars last season for my canoe and boat loader, together they are around 100 pounds, but there is a ton of wind force on the highway when there is a strong gusty crosswind.

I can’t believe they will hold 450 pounds safely while moving, maybe more like 150. I will be driving on washboard and potholed forest roads, the very best kind, with the load on top.

My bars are removed and stored ten feet off the ground in my shop or I would go look... is there a load sticker?

I want to see if the factory bars are way quieter than my Yak round ones...

Also, I might throw an ocassional load of 2x4s on top, I need to know how many would be safe for a five mile trip on 35 mph surface streets.

Thanks,

120lb is no prolemo for the OEM roof rack. I had a huge RRT on my 100-series. Traveled just fine. And slept 300lbs of me and my wife on top of that just fine. For those that my have removed the factory rack before, it's beefy. Solid aluminum construction, with a lot of reinforced webbing. The load bars are a bit flexier than aftermarket stuff, but that actually affords more durability.

I have 3 load bars on mine currently as it makes a better platform for various things. Just added a 100-series load bar I had around, and cut ~1" off the width. Works great.

My opinion, but other than styling, I believe the stock rack to be much superior than most aftermarket units.

Well, in fact, the Owner's Manual for the 2013 Land Cruiser does say:

Looks like the factory load limit is 154 lb (70 kg).

I knew I had seen this info somewhere, but the manual sure doesn't make it easy to find.

Thanks, I looked at that page an hour ago and just missed it. I think it will be fine with my canoe and loader.
