Anyone ever done this? I am building a utility trailer and need to convert it over to have a pintle shank instead of a ball. Instead of spending the 50 bucks for one, couldn't I just get some thick round stock and heat it and bend it into a circle and weld it to my frame. Enyone know the diameter needed?
would 2.5"s be enough? Slickrock

I wouldn't risk it, spend the money on a cast hitch

I would of agreed but most of those light weight trailers are houling not much.

Pintles were designed with much greater weights and yeild factors, so I would say for a cruiser hauling tralor you could get away with it.

Still I am not a engineer and would get educated information on this.

this will be a small 5'x4.25' box with a 5 foot tounge. It will ride on 33s. shouldn't be more than 250-300lbs when it is all said and done. pretty light.

Sure, empty....maybe........but who and why would you pull a trailer around empty? You know you are going to try and stuff 100 pounds of s*** into your 20 pound capacity trailer...and then beat and bang it on the trail....

A four-foot piece of 2.5" solid stock, and the time spent screwing around with it...you could purchase two that are already made.

Just spend the fiftey bucks, and be done with it....but that is just me.

I plan on building a trailer someday, and I will not skimp on anything....trying to build something to "work" and building something to "last" are two completly different worlds.

I like doing things once.

Good luck!

For that kinda money, you could not fab it yourself that cheap.

I got my lunette at Six States for around 20 bucks. Not worth screwing around trying to make one...

Are they online? what is the web address? That is about how much it would cost me for the steel.
