Hi Guys...
Yes i know this is a landcruiser forum, but since most of you guys have two trucks anyway, i want to know the following...

just thought i would ask you guys that have them if you have replaced the Cam phasers yet? mine is an 05, 155k.

any one done it? anyone used the aftermarket lockouts?...
what a s***ty design by ford... yup built ford tough alright...

looking for inputs on the best way to deal with these...

thanks.

you'd be better off going to the 4x4 & Vehicle Tech tab at the top and posting in the ford section. This is for guys that have the 80 series land cruiser and the tech there of.

Go buy a 91-97 land cruiser... Then return to this forum and ask questiones about said vehicle....

ahh thanks did not know that was there... ill do that

I used a Motion Pro clutch holding tool for dirt bikes for the removal/install of the cam phasers. The hardest part of the job is removing/installing the valve cover. I believe the timing cover has to be removed and since the cover is off the timing chain guides are common for breaking. Good luck!!!

As others have said-this is fj80 territory. We had to replace our cam phasers in our 05 Expy and mechanic ended up jumping a tooth, he finally checked after replacing alternator, coil packs, and injection service all on our dime. Never ran real great after wards, alternator went out again, catalytic converter, and then died in town on us. 5 days later we bought a Nissan armada so the garage is completely Japanese except for my KTM.

so your thought was that i was just surfing the net and decided to post a question on a landcruiser forum cuase i had a ford... well done... or perhaps the avatar with a picture of my landcruiser was not enough to indicate that i have a cruiser,
I guessed that the good guys on the forum could help me out with my ford, since there are proably 1000 f150 owners on here...i did not realize that there is a ford section too, so i will go there i thought mud was for cruisers guys only, and since i have an 80 i thought why not ask my 80 buddies who else might have a f150... ..but
thanks for the comment anyway, always helpfull.

The problem is that the timing marks on the timing chain for those Ford engines are on the bottom side of the crank where the pulley goes on and you physically cannot see it unless you remove a lot of parts and there are 2 chains so one is infront of the other (I used my phone to take a photo to comfirm I had it on right) so it could have been put on wrong to begin with. Yeah but I agree with you, STUPID FORD!!!

I was going to replace the chain, and tensioners, as well as the guides, so the front cover will be comming off. the issue is that i dont want to be right back with lound phasers after another 20k, was looking at the lockouts, anyone used them?

I bet you that the timing chain guides are broken also. After I replaced all the same items with factory parts, the truck was much quieter than a friends' truck with a 5.4L with only 45K miles. Ford actually came out with an updated cam phaser. The truck now has 180K miles and 60K miles since the work was done and has had no issues. Make sure you remove the idler pulleys and inspect the timing cover also.
